Re: Post #2828- 28 Ramming Thoughts
I wouldnt trade linehan for lovie, i would rather have linehan, but i appreciate that reasonable people can differ on that.
My point was not intended to bash lovie. What is said is that he was overated as a coordinator, not that he was lousy. I think on of the huge differences in last years bears defense, vs, the season before, was a healthy uhrlacher, and lovie had nothing to do with that. I think lovie is a very good defensive coordinator and i would be happy to have him in that role. The key here is that on this board over the last year or two people have been bashing away at our defense and blaming a lot of the players failures on the coordinator rather than the players.
I am trying to say that in the Lovie era, the offense scored a LOT more points which made it easier on the defense in general and that lovie was not without his flaws. I was highlighting the carolina game, but really using it as an example. As the defense wore down physically, lovie was unable to work his magic, because it wasnt magic in the first place. The talent is the talent and coaching helps at the margain, but scheme never won or lost anything on its own.
Again, not lovie bashing, more of the idea that he is not the defensive guru of all time that some on this board have made him out to be.
