No, it wouldn't. And here's why.

Alston is small, has no experience playing DE whatsoever, would get absolutely battered there, and in no way would assist our quest to stop the run, because there'd be an Offensive Tackle on top of him at all times. The skills necessary to play DE and LB are not greatly comparable.

Whereas DBs cover WRs, making Furrey was a different story. He's back playing reciever now. Why do you think Troy Brown could make the switch mideason 2005 for the Pats? Because the skills necessary are closely related. Admittedly, the DB's have the Turn and Cover, which a WR does not have to do, but it was easier to make the sqitch because there is no great difference in height/weight required.

That is not to say that any WR can convert to S.

But it's easier than Alston, a LB/S tweener, at 220 pounds, to convert to DE, where he'd be tossed around all over the shop.
