Actually they (mountain oysters) are quite tasty !! Yes ... I am speaking from experience. At the tender age of 12 I became an indentured servant to the Double Bar K Ranch in Alpine Arizona for a summer (courtesy of my folks)Apparently my folks felt that either I or they benefited from the experience as I went back the following summer. I digress ... (Utter Blitz you should stop reading right here). During branding, earmarking, and castrating sessions, we always had a large fire going mostly to keep the branding irons hot, however, lest we grow faint from lack of nourishment, the oysters upon ... hmmm ... uhh ... detachment, yes that's it detachment, were basically tossed into the edge of the fire to roast. You could always tell when they were done, because as steam built up inside them they would "pop" quite distinctly -- sort of a built in timer you could say. Anyway they are very tasty !!
