To answer your question, yes, the June 1st transition is still in effect in the NFL. For those who don't know, June 1st is when you can cut a player and the cap hit for his signing bonus is prorated for this year and the rest is on NEXT year's cap. The issue is that teams are for the most part so good with the cap now a days that there are no major June 1st cap casualties because teams have enough cap room for their rookies. You'll still see a few people cut, who would have abnormally large cap hits, but you won't see anyone really good get dropped.
