Are the Packers being fair to Favre?

The Packers have told Favre that they will not give him his unconditional release and tell him if he wants to return to the team it will be as the back up.

What do you think of the Packer's handling of this situation? Yes, Favre has been annoying with his year after year I might retire, I might return and now his I'm definately retired, oops no I'm not routine. I also understand the desire and need to move on with building this team around Rodgers while the team still has good talent around to provide some success and confidence in its young quarterback.

In my opinion, to tell the most popular and productive quarterback in your franchise's history to take a clipboard and sit on the bench is insulting. Sure, it may be desirable to get something in exchange for letting Favre go to another team, and the Packers may be wanting to prevent Favre going to one their divisional rivals, but the guy has earned the right to go wherever he wants, unconditionally.
