Aeneas Williams, who switched to safety last season after 12 years as a cornerback and was named to the NFC's Pro Bowl roster, will return to cornerback for the Rams this week.
The move, announced today by coach Mike Martz, shores up a depleted Rams secondary that lost DeJuan Groce (knee) and Kevin Garrett (foot) to injuries in Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
Starting cornerback Travis Fisher has been sidelined since the preseason with a broken arm.
Either Justin Lucas or Rich Coady will start in Williams' place at free safety as the Rams slowly work newcomer Kwamie Lassiter into the rotation.
Groce is doubtful for Sunday's noon home game vs. New Orleans and Garrett is questionable.
Martz said he expects Fisher and Groce to return in about three weeks, so Williams' move will be temporary. Martz said Williams is recovered from a turf toe injury.
Williams, 36, made the Pro Bowl seven times as a cornerback.
Martz also said that defensive end
Leonard Little will sit out today's practice because of a sprained knee, but that Little is expected to play Sunday.
