I'm not completely sure, but here's my "grainy Bigfoot film" theory of how it works:

When someone gives you a rep point (scales of justice in the upper right of your post), your total "points" goes up by however many "rep power" points the giver has. For example, if AV gives you props, you get 9 "points". As your "points" increase to certain higher amounts, both your "rep power" and green thingies increase.

However, your rep power can also go up as you pass certain post totals, and Dez can add to your rep power as well.

So, in short, the "scales of justice" increase your green thingies. The "scales of justice" + your total posts + Dez's magic button increases your "rep power".

That does not explain everything Sam I am. There are sayings associated with the blocks. The sayings seem to be in line with the rep points and the color of the squares, but the amount of squares means nothing that I can figure out.

Some people have more squares than others, but it does not seem to be based on rep points or on amount of posts. I don't know what causes the squares to increase or what their purpose is.

As I said earlier, the number of green thingies is a function of how many positive rep points you get from other posters. It's not necessarily associated with "rep power". That's a different function, sort of.

Yea, rep points can actually go into negative numbers, which is very difficult to do, as most people don't send out negative rep unless they really mean it.
