Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
Okay... at this point, I don't think there will be any more trades or FA signings that will result in a major shift in the balance of power, so...
It is time!

And now, some responses to anticipated comments:
- Yes, I see the Rams making some real strides this year, but not quite making the playoffs. I think they'll be in very good shape to rise to that level in 2010.
- That's right, the Texans. They are my "dark horse" horse candidate to be this year's team on the rise. I think they might get off to a bit of a slow start, but they will come together as the season wears on and will be the hot team come the playoffs.
- Still, this will ultimately be the Eagles year. It would be easy to say "they're due," but its more than that. They have done as much as any team to bolster and improve their roster this offseason.
- Other teams I considered for the big game: Giants, Falcons and Chargers.
- I am not buying into the Seahawks hype. I think they are a team that has too many parts that are past their expiration date. That's a recipe for disaster in this league.
- The Dolphins and Ravens, unlike the Falcons, won't be able to fully sustain their turnarounds from 2008.
- Teams I worry I might be undervaluing: Titans, Raiders, Vikings, Bucs.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
Cheatriots, Cowgirls, Whiners, Seagals, not in the bowl is good enough for me, unless your dark horse was the Rams.
Wonder what Bernie M is cooking up for his prediction............... now that his alter ego has jumped to the forefront with 2009 predictions ????
Maineram - :D
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
Man I sure would love 8-8! And I'd really like to see the Texans do well. I've liked them since they were an expansion team..mostly because I felt sorry for them..and they have cool uniforms :D
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I see Chi and Minny fighting it out in the north. The Bills giving the Pats and the rest of that messed up division quite a run and the Falcons making the leap to top that one.Tha Rams............well I still see them at the bottom but with more wins than last year. But stranger things have happened. check this out ....Bills and the Vikes in the next Super Bowl. Bills lose by a feild goal.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
First prediction I've seen that doesn't have the Patriots over Eagles it seems, lol.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I think the Patriots will win more than 11 games this year. They won 11 last year with Cassel at quarterback and I think they'll be improved with Brady replacing him.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I'd watch that Super Bowl, little early to tell just yet on some teams,I wouldn't rule out Arizona, there are pretty good, minnesota has some of the best talent in the NFC but still no QB and a guy named Favre won't change that, the Cowboys are not going anywhere,I agree on the Seahawks and teams like the Falcons,Saints and Giants could all be there but I don't think so,if not the Rams then I agree with AV at this point it just might be the Eagles year.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
Lets see where we differ...
While I agree with the Texans being a good wildcard bet, I can't see them making the big game in their first ever playoffs.
You're definitely undervaluing the Vikings. You know Favre will be going there and he won't have to carry the team as much as he did for the Jets. They'll be in the playoffs, probably as the division winner.
I wish, but we won't be 8-8. :-(
They might not be in the playoffs, but the Bills are going to be much better than 4-12... probably 8-8 or 9-7.
I actually feel that the Dolphins are the most likely to sustain their turnaround, meanwhile the Ravens and Falcons will take a step back(loss of Rex Ryan and I think the Atlanta defense will struggle as well).
Predictions:
AFC Championship: Chargers over Colts(Or Cheatriots...)
NFC Championship: Eagles over Saints
Super Bowl: Chargers over Eagles(McNabb just can't win...)
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
The Cardinals over the Steelers in the Super Bowl. The steelers are just to good on defense and too experienced in the afc not to go again. The Patriots I am hoping and praying are on the decline I really despise that team.
I will have to agree with you on the Texans alot of young talent on that team.
I would say the nfc championship will be the Giants vs the Cards. Giants one year removed from their championship run will have alot to prove. That defense is solid and the run game allows the defense to set the tempo.
Afc championship will be Steelers vs tha Chargers. Once again we will have the Chargers losing an emotional game. To me they are the bridesmaids of the NFL.
P.S. Avenger Kobe won another championship you told me years ago that would not happen. :)
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I pretty much agree with your prediction, except the SB. I see the Patriots beating the Eagles.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I think the Patriots are a bit overrated at this point. Everyone presumes that Brady will pick up where he left off in 2007, but there's no guarantee that will happen.
Re: Av's Official 2009 NFL Predictions
I can name 24 teams in AFC that are better than Texans.

That would be a neat trick, given that there are only 16 teams in the AFC.

Wow AV, several surprise here, now I agree with you about the Texans, everyone is stalking about them especially their defense and what many consider to be the best WR in the NFL aka Mr. Johnson. Sadly that is where we don't agree any longer. Now I know I'm not a mod or anything but here it goes:
NFC first:
-Rams will go 5-11, 6-10 at best, now the product will be much better, but both our defense and our WR core needs alot of work.
-The falcons will win the NFC south, they will share the same record with the Saints 10-6.
-The Bears at 9-7....AV what are you smoking? They will be 6-10 at best.
-The Cowboys will be 8-8 and their coach will be fired at the end of the year.
As for the AFC....
-The browns will be 6-10.
-The Bengals will surprise a lot of people and maybe 7-9.
-The chiefs will go 3-13...man I feel for the KC fans this year, but they will be competitive.
-The Titans may drop to 8-8 this year, the AFC south is going to be awesome to watch.
AFC Championship: Patriots over the Texans
NFC Championship: Eagles over the Cardinals
Patriots will win it all, as much as I hate to admit it, all things point to them being close to unstoppable.
