Av's Preseason Picks, Revisited
So... let's see how I'm doing at the halfway point of the season...
New England Patriots 11-5
Miami Dolphins 7-9
New York Jets 7-9
Buffalo Bills 4-12
Pretty much on target there. The Patriots are in first. The Dolphins and Jets are hovering around .500. The Bills are at the bottom of the division.
Pittsburgh Steelers 11-5
Baltimore Ravens 8-8
Cleveland Browns 8-8
Cincinnati Bengals 6-10
Well, I definitely did not see the Browns demise or the Bengals rise coming. Steelers and Ravens are performing as expected.
Indianapolis Colts 10-6
Houston Texans 10-6
Tennessee Titans 9-7
Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11
I obviously missed the boat on the Titans, but who didn't? My underdog Super Bowl pick of the Texans is still a possibility.
San Diego Chargers 12-4
Denver Broncos 8-8
Kansas City Chiefs 4-12
Oakland Raiders 4-12
The Chargers have underperformed, and the Broncos are better than expected. I would not be surprised, though, if my order proves accurate in the end.
Philadelphia Eagles 12-4
New York Giants 11-5
Dallas Cowboys 9-7
Washington Redskins 6-10
Looking pretty good, though I don't know that the Redskins will win six games in the end.
Green Bay Packers 10-6
Chicago Bears 9-7
Minnesota Vikings 8-8
Detroit Lions 3-13
Definitely undervalued the Vikings here. Otherwise pretty close.
New Orleans Saints 11-5
Atlanta Falcons 10-6
Carolina Panthers 7-9
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-10
Got the order right, but gave too many wins to Tampa, and too few to the Saints.
Arizona Cardinals 10-6
St. Louis Rams 8-8
San Francisco Niners 7-9
Seattle Seahawks 5-11
No, I don't see the Rams going 7-1 in the second half of the season. Otherwise, though, my picks for the division are on target.
I still like my Eagles vs. Texans pick. The Eagles have had a lot of injuries, but they seem to be coming together now. If they can avoid big injuries going into the playoffs, they remain my favorite. The Saints have risen to a point where they must be considered too, though I wonder if their style of play will translate to playoff victories. The Vikings have to be viewed as a contender, but I won't be shocked if Favre wears down towards the end of the season.
In the AFC, the Colts have emerged as the top team. Still, they are not without their flaws. I like my Texans pick, as they could match the Colts in a shootout if it comes to that. The Patriots are in the mix, but I think they are beatable. I'm not buying into the Broncos success at this point. I suspect they will have a rough second half of the season.
Re: Av's Preseason Picks, Revisited
Your picks look even better in week 16, as the Titans and Chargers rallied.
