Isaac Bruce – rolling through the records

As we fans watch the Rams’ offense struggle, Isaac Bruce is quietly sliding up the charts. We are scrutinizing Bulger struggling with the new offensive scheme, we are watching Holt snag a few balls thrown his way, and we notice as Steven Jackson pushes on through for some running yards. We have seen balls fly overthrown, balls hit the turf, and amazingly we have seen no interceptions thrown in the first 3 games of the season.

Have we noticed the 13 receptions that Isaac Bruce has picked up this year?

Have we noticed his speed, the crisp way he still runs his routes, and the nice competitive attitude that pops after he makes a nice catch. His body language screams “got ya again” every time he gets a catch. He seems to like contact from the secondary as it makes the reception even more rewarding. His spirit is, alive and well, and he is showing no signs of the turf toe injury that took him out of the game last year.

Isaac Bruce was drafted by the LA Rams in Round 2 of the 1994 draft. Yes, I did say the LA Rams. He has always played for the Rams and is one of the few remaining players that came from LA before the team moved to St Louis in 1995.

He currently has 77 TDS, 826 Receptions, and 12,498 receiving yards. That's a lot of catches and a lot of TDs folks. Isaac Bruce has been to 4 Pro Bowls (1996, 1999, 2000, 2001). He is an amazing receiver and his numbers rank up there with some other big names.

Isaac Bruce is in his 13th season as a Ram and his numbers will continue to grow, all though not as quickly as his teammate Torry Holt. Torry has 56 TDs, 639 receptions and 9,717 in 8 years, just in case you were interested in a comparison of the numbers. Torry will no doubt get more TDs and more receptions this year, but Isaac Bruce is not done yet. He will continue to rise in the all time leader lists.

Keep your eyes on the man nicknamed “the Reverend Ike". He still has something to show the Rams. He may not be a top fantasy player this year, but he will play an important role on a potent offense.

In the 2006 season, Isaac Bruce has finally passed his coach, another well known Ram from the past, Henry Ellard, in the all time list of players with the most receptions. Ellard played 12 years for the Rams, 4 years for the Redskins, and he spent a year with the Patriots. Ellard had 65 TDs, 814 receptions, and 13,777 receiving yards in his career with 3 trips to the Pro Bowl in the 80s. Henry Ellard is currently the WR Coach for the Rams.
