There are alot of things that need to happen for the RAMS to get into the playoffs. (Focusing on this weekend only) Here's what needs to happen to stay alive going into the last week of the season:
Saints must beat the Giants at New Jersey
Panthers must beat the Falcons at Atlanta
Rams must beat the Redskins at St. Louis
I feel like the Saints have a real good shot at beating the Giants. The Panthers beating the Falcons has me concerned though. The Falcons beat the Panthers earlier this season. The game was at Carolina and the final was Falcons 20 Panthers 6.
RAMS beating the Redskins is also another area of strong concern. Of course if the RAMS don't find a way to win nothing else matters, we're done!
Let me start out by saying the RAMS are (1-5) vs the Redskins since moving to St. Louis. Worse than that we are (0-4) at the Dome! UGGGG!
The Redskins started out this season with high hopes. Don't forget this was a playoff team last season. Mark Brunell and Clinton Portis were the main ingredients to this teams offense to start the season. Portis got injured and ultimately was lost for the season and Brunell was benched after posting a (3-7) record. Stepping in were Jason Campbell at qb and Ladell Betts to try and fill Portis' shoes. The Redskins have gone (2-3) since the new blood was inserted into the offense. Of the 5 games only 1 saw the Redskins lose by more than 1 score. (Falcons 24 Redskins 14) The Redskins can be run on and the Falcons proved it by rushing for over 200 yards.
Washington Redskins (5-9)
Offensive Rankings:
16th overall
5th rushing
23rd passing
18 sacks allowed
14 giveaways
Defensive Rankings
24th overall
21st vs rush
21st vs pass
17 sacks
11 takeaways
note*- Allowed 25 touchdowns tied with Tampa Bay for last in the NFL.
Jason Campbell has faired just okay since becoming the starter. He's completing just over 50% of his passes, averaging 183 passing yards per game with 7 td passes with 5 interceptions.
Ladell Betts on the other hand has done much better. Betts is used alot like our
Steven Jackson. Over the last 4 games Betts is averaging 29 touches per game. All 4 games he went over 100 yards rushing combined with around 20 yards receiving per game.
My keys to the game:
We need to get a 2 score lead and force the Redskins to throw the ball.
WOW! How many times have we heard that when it comes to RAMS opponents?
The Redskins are a team that doesn't turn the ball over much. 14 games played 14 giveaways. They also aren't very good at creating turnovers, only 11 takeaways. Our RAMS have 29 takeaways with 17 giveaways. Also the Redskins qb has only been sacked 18 times this season and their defense has sacked the opposing qb only 17 times.
The Redskins play sound fundamental football on both sides of the ball. We must play the
Scott Linehan style of offense (protect the ball). Dink and dunk. We need to be giveaway free. We have a bad run defense but the Skins aren't much better. The Skins have not scored more than 19 points in any game since Campbell and Betts have been the starters. 1st team to 20 wins? 20 shouldn't be a problem for us. I see our RAMS putting up some big numbers against Washington Sunday.
RAMS win and watch the scoreboard.....Come on Saints and Panthers help us out. Would be exciting to be alive going into the last week of the season!!!
GO RAMS!!!!
