RAMS "D" 2007 vs RAMS "D" 2006
Has our defense really improved over last season's version? I'll let you be the judge.
RAMS 2007 DEFENSE (7 games)
Rankings:
#18- Overall-(330.7ypg)
#28- Pts Allowed-(27.4 ppg) *****SEE NOTES*****
#10- Pass D-(201.1 ypg) 7.2 yard average, per completion.
#24- Rush D-(129.6 ypg) 4.0 yard average, per rush.
#22- Sacks (10)
11 takeaways but a turnover ratio of -12. Our turnover ratio is the worst in the NFL.
Pass D has allowed 13 plays of 20+ yards and 2 plays of 40+ yards.
Rush D has allowed 7 plays of 20+ yards and 1 play of 40+ yards.
RAMS 2006 DEFENSE (16 games)
Rankings:
#23- Overall-(335.1 ypg)
#28- Pts Allowed-(23.8)
#8-- Pass D- (189.7 ypg) 7.2 yard average, per completion.
#31- Rush D- (145.4 ypg) 4.9 yard average, per rush.
#16- Sacks (34)
32 takeaways with a +14 turnover ratio.
Pass D allowed 41 plays of 20+ yards and 8 plays of 40+ yards.
Rush D allowed 17 plays of 20+ yards and 2 plays of 40+ yards.
*****NOTES*****
The 2007 Defense's points allowed category is misleading in my mind. Our offense has turned the ball over 23 times which has lead to excellent field position for our opposition.
Opponents Field Position (Results)
RAMS 26 (Defense gets the ball back on a fumble recovery)
RAMS 14 (Defense intercepts a pass)
RAMS 49 (Defense intercepts a pass)
RAMS 43 (Defense intercepts a pass)
RAMS 39 (TD allowed)
RAMS 26 (FG allowed)
RAMS 40 (TD allowed)
RAMS 39 (TD allowed)
RAMS 43 (FG allowed)
RAMS 13 (FG allowed)
RAMS 27 (FG allowed)
RAMS 44 (FG allowed)
RAMS 21 (FG allowed)
RAMS 44 (FG allowed)
RAMS 14 (TD allowed)
Add in a kickoff and an interception that were returned for TD's and our points allowed number doesn't look so bad as far as our defense is concerned.
Our opposition's offense has had the ball 83 times. The RAMS defense has forced 18 (three and outs) and 10 (four and outs). Taking away the oppositions drives that have started on our side of the field, our defense has allowed 22 scoring drives. (13 TDs and 9 FGs)
It's very hard to believe that our offense is killing us in so many ways. They're not putting points on the board like we are used to seeing. On top of that the offense has put our defense in too many "backs against the wall" situations.Last edited by laram0; -10-25-2007 at 07:34 AM.

Yeah . . . but think how bad it'd have been if we didn't have an offensive minded head coach!

Hmm. So number-wise it's not really that much difference, but when you break down film and see the situations the D has been up against, you can tell they are better.

Re: RAMS "D" 2007 vs RAMS "D" 2006
Because we have been playing badly in most games we have been behind most of the time. So our opponents will probably run the ball more against us than throwing. With that in mine our Pass D is probably not better and our Rush D might be slightly better than last year.
But at the end of the day only two numbers count. And they are on the score board and in that area we SUCK big time on more than one front.
