Re: 2008 NFL DRAFT RAMS PICK (Round 2, 33rd overall): Donnie Avery, WR, Houston

We should have drafted an O-Lineman or Cornerback in the 2nd round and got Avery in the 3rd. He probably would have still been available

I think it is extraordinarily unlikely that Avery would have lasted to the 3rd round.

Nine WRs were taken in Round 2. I seriously doubt that Avery would not have been among them if the Rams had passed on him.

Really...nine? I had no idea that many were taken, lol. Way to put me in my place Avenger . I don't think Avery was a bad choice, I just think there were better choices at WR at that time. We will see...

On another note....WOOOHOOOO!!! We took Chris Long!!! GO RAMS!!!

Based on? This is a guess at best. The Houston Chronicle indicates some GMs had him in the 20-40 range. Rick Gosselin had him rated at #43. What evidence, besides pre-draft WR rankings that aren't reflective of how the WRs actually came off the board, is there that he'd be there later?

Relax man. It was just my opinion, we all have them. I don't claim to be a draft expert, so of course it was just a guess

I would love to see Dan Conner as a Ram . Scout.com has him ranked the #1 LB in Draft.

Unhappy Re: 2008 NFL DRAFT RAMS PICK (Round 2, 33rd overall): Donnie Avery, WR, Houston

linehan has a history of poor 2nd round picks, Klopenstien?!?? Wade??!? I hope
I am wrong here, that they saw something nobody else saw....but this could be the second round pick that breaks the camels back! Lets all hope for an amazing day tomorrow, because one thing is for sure....Av ery was going to be there 10 picks later...probably 20 later. I'm not feelin this at all...

First of all, the two previous 2nd round picks under Linehan were Klopfenstein (who, at the moment, is highly questionable) and Brian Leonard (jury's out on him too).

Wade, who may prove to be a good pick, was selected in Round 3.

As for Avery being there later in the round... you don't know that.

Anyone have Jordy Nelson going before DeSean Jackson and Limas Sweed?

Didn't think so.

your right......who knows, but if you look back and see who we passed on for Klop and leonard, its painful.....I hope this was a genius pick, I am now Avery's biggest fan, but I still say it was way to early...

I get these Dwayne Bowe butterflies (of course, he's more diminutive in stature). He looks like the type of player who is exactly what we need. Exactly. A slot receiver who can stretch the field, something Holt and Bennett are unable to do. A potential cure to our kick returning blues. Despite the initial shock reaction, he seems to me like the kind of player you can design plays for. I can't wait to see him in action.

When it comes to WR its all about system fit. After some seasoning and he gets stronger and learns things like getting of jams i am confident he will be more than a slot and become a great 1 or 2. ED our last 2nd overall pick Isaac Bruce our last 33rd pick. Lets just hope history repeats itself in Avery and Long
