    20 End-of-Preseason Random Thoughts

    1. Sam Bradford has been and has done everything we could have hoped or expected at this stage.

    2. I can't think of any logical reason not to start Sam in the opener.

    3. Fred Robbins and Clifton Ryan (with support from Darrell Scott) have looked pretty stout at the point of attack.

    4. The waiver wire is definitely worth watching. Backup RB seems the most logical target, but WR, DE and S could be looked at as well.

    5. Has anyone been a bigger suprise than Danny Amendola?

    6. Right now, is there any player selected after pick #33 who you would take over Rodger Saffold?

    7. Somebody needs to find a way to alter the Clash of the Titans (remake) trailer so that Liam Neeson (Zeus) exclaims "Release the JACKSON!"

    8. Speaking of Jacksons... I'd be shocked if Vincent is in the Rams' plans.

    9. Patrick Crayton, on the other hand...

    10. Over/Under for JL's tackles: 125. I'm going with the "over."

    11. Over/Under for Chris Long's sacks: 8. Again, I'll take the "over."

    12. Null or Lewis? I'm going Null. Lewis will always be 6'0 (if that).

    13. Hoomanawanui (did I spell that correctly?) continues to intrigue.

    14. Rams are 2-0 in the Stan Kroenke era.

    15. I wouldn't be opposed to the field (not the stadium) being named Rosenbloom Field (in honor of Caroll and his legacy).

    16. One week 'till UM/Ohio State, dinner at Jake's, the Lumiere Hotel & Casino, and Rams home opener vs. Cards. I'm getting jacked up just typing this!

    17. When are they going to get toasted ravs at the EJD!?!?!

    18. Randy: I, along with many of your fellow Clan members, am thinking of you.

    19. Ron Bartell and Brad Fletcher: if they stay healthy, they're going to turn some heads this year.

    20. I see a #8 jersey in my future...

Scratch #9 off the list. Crayton was just traded to San Diego.

I think Mr Samtastic has been and has done everything "and more" than we could have expected to this stage.

    1. Guess it depends on whose expectations you choose to remember; some thought he'd be on IR by now, in an extended holdout because the FO was incompetent & underfunded, fumbling snaps disastrously & struggling with hot reads, etc.

    2. I can think of one; Darnell Dockett & Joey Porter vs Goldberg & Smith. Not sayin' we shouldn't or won't but it is a scary thought.

    3. Unbelievabubble. The Rams are #3 vs the rush in preseason. NFL.com doesn't retain the preseason stats for last year but I think that's a wee bit better...lol. And I think you could spread the love around to the LBs and Gary Gibson as well as Long who looks great vs the run on the left.

    4. No doubt. the Rams are still only a couple of injuries away from deep doodoo.

    5. Maybe Larry Grant or Gary Gibson or even Hooma-whatsit.

    6. Agreed. He may have saved Loney's job.

    7. I'm all for tossing Rampage the mascot into the volcano to keep the football gods appeased & The Beast Kraken helmets.

    8. Agreed. Two high picks and a monster contract is a lot for a guy who probably wouldn't want to come here anyway.

    9. What about Housh? I wouldn't give The Hags the steam off my pee if they were dying of thirst but if he gets released( that's the latest rumor)...

    10. With that revamped DL in front of him I hope the +125 won't be necessary.

    11. I like 8. 8 is a good number, esp if it comes with loads of assists for The Popsicle Man & co which I think it will.

    12. I'll take Lewis' mobility viagra over Null's extra inches.....uh....that came out weird.

    13. Spelling it is one thing, saying it out loud when excited about the latest jaw-dropping play he's made is another. I think I just came up with the official drinking game for The Bash.

    14. Let's hope he's got the nuggets to bring The Rams an avalanche of success.

    15. I heard they've already renamed all the diaper-changing tables in the restrooms "Linehan Ledges".

    16. Ok, got nothing for this except envy. Have fun.

    17. The real question is whether they will serve toasted Clannies anything at all.

    18. Seriously. What kind of Clan are we without the big man in a kilt ?

    19. As long as they remember to turn theirs.

    20. Take a number for that number.

Also add that Pat Shurmur looks like he might actually know what he's doing as an NFL offensive coordinator.

    Re: 20 End-of-Preseason Random Thoughts

    1. Agreed. There are two things I've really liked, specifically. One, I was glad to see him take some hits and get back up, and I hope he can keep that up through the season, since his durability was the main factor in why he wasn't my top choice for the Rams. But secondly, I really like the poise he's shown in the situation that he's been thrust into. Every time Sam takes the field, regardless of the opponent, he looks calm and collected.

    2. There are probably a few reasons one could come up for, if they really tried. I'm not sure any of them are worthy enough to actually keep Sam on the bench. Obviously the transition from vanilla preseason defenses and fully prepared starting NFL defenses who have gameplanned for you could be tough. But at this point, I think Sam has earned the opportunity to face that challenge head on in the season opener.

    3. My understanding is that Ryan has kind of been supplanted from the starting line-up by Gary Gibson. Regardless, the interior has looked stout, but they haven't exactly faced that steep of a challenge. No Adrian Peterson in Game One, no Ray Rice in Game Four, a weak Patriots backfield in Game Three, etc. I can't bring myself to get my hopes just yet up given the circumstances, but I am anxious to see how they do in the regular season.

    4. Agreed, especially after the Rams passed on Derrick Ward, who from all accounts would have been a good schematic fit but simply didn't show anything this preseason. Ward has since gone on to sign with Houston I believe, so the Rams will need to keep a close eye on who else might become available. Maybe they'll get lucky and a decent receiver gets cut as well; I don't see them adding much at defensive end, but maybe a safety intrigues them.

    5. Maybe Larry Grant? Once the Bobby Carpenter trade happened, it was almost a forgone conclusion that he'd work his way into the starting line-up, but Grant has held him off.

    6. Right now, it's hard to say. Probably not, because no Saffold means Smith is moved to left tackle and we have... Goldberg?... at right tackle, which is hardly ideal. Then again, maybe you draft someone else in round two and a right tackle in round three. Who's to say how things change when you start hypothetically changing around picks, but the fact that Saffold is currently the first team LT makes this point hard to argue.

    7. That would be a great short video for inside the Dome on game days. WVU plays a couple of movie clips like that, to get the crowd pumped up. I imagine this would be a nice spot for both the crowd and the team.

    8. Sounds like he won't be.

    9. We already know isn't, either.

    10. Solo or combined? Because I think he had 120 combined last season, so I don't see why he couldn't add five more in 2010. What I'd like to see from James is more impact plays - tackles for loss, sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles. He was pretty solid in those numbers for a rookie, let's keep that up.

    11. Hard to say. I think it'll be close to eight, one way or another. Long may never be an elite pass rusher in the Freeney mold, but I think he's becoming a pretty good all-around defensive end. More consistent pressure would definitely be a plus, though. And that could be said of our whole line, as it seemed like the Rams still had to manufacture a pass rush through the blitz more times than you'd like.

    12. I'll go Null as well, with Lewis landing on the practice squad. I think we've seen some flashes from Lewis, but Null gets the advantage because of his game experience from last season.

    13. Very much so. If he's not starting for this team relatively soon, he should be featured in two tight end sets.

    14. Good point!

    15. I'm not too familiar with this - is it common for the stadium and the field to have two separate names in pro football? I've never really looked into that or thought about it much.

    16. Very nice! My Mountaineers open the season tomorrow, and I just got done enjoying a Pitt loss last night. While a part of me wanted to see them beat Utah so that they look better when WVU faces them, I just couldn't bring myself to root for a Pitt victory. I have to say, it was quite a game!

    17. No idea.

    18. Very much so!

    19. Hopefully, that's the case. Bartell had a bit of a down year in 2009 due to injury, and Fletcher showed some flashes before being injured. It'd be nice if the Rams could finally get two starting corners they're happy with, but even if they do, it might not be worth a whole lot without a more dangerous pass rush to accompany them. Even great corners have a hard time covering their man for 5-6 seconds, if that's the kind of time an opposing quarterback has to throw.

    20. I might be investing in one sometime this year as well, depending on a few variables. Just tough to drop the full retail price on a jersey anymore. I don't think I've purchased one since... Will Witherspoon? Yikes. Really wanted to get a Chris Long one as well (and my wife wanted me to get on also, as she thinks he's a hunk... go figure).

I got mine in a few days ago and I love it. It cost 40 bucks including shipping. The guy doesn't have any right now but he said his shipment should be in early next week. His name is ramsrule98 on ebay. I thought they were fake or low quality but I can't find anything wrong with it at all.

    Ohio State or Michigan fan?

    Go Buckeyes

Rams will have several WR they can look at after cut day. TJ, Matt Jones, Coles, and I am sure there will be more come sunday but the Rams will probably go with what they got.

Also they may want to take a look at Willie Parker. He would add some good depth at RB.

    Go Rams
