2005 Free Agent Top 10 Wish List (First Look!)

Another board had a complete list of the 2005 Free Agents. Here's my preliminary Top 10 Wish List for the Rams:

1. Edgerton Hartwell, LB, Baltimore - true run stopper Rams lack.
2. Darren Howard, DE, New Orleans - all around DE would be an upgrade.
3. Shaun Ellis, DE, New York Jets - a replacement for Little if...
4. Joe Andruzzi, OG, New England - perfect fit for need position.
5. Dominic Raiola, C, Detroit - upgrade over aging McCollum.
6. Kendrell Bell, LB, Pittsburgh - w/out injury history, he'd be at top of list.
7. John Abraham, DE, New York Jets - another possible Little contingency plan.
8. Donovan Darius, S, Jacksonville - move Arch to LB?
9. Antonio Gates, TE, San Diego - probably no shot at him, but...
10. Shaun Rogers, DT, Detroit - allow Rams to trade Lewis or Pickett before they become FAs?

Mine is pretty similar, only a couple of differences:
1. Hartwell
2. Bell
3. Ken Lucas - a hardhitting physical corner
4. Fred Smoot - shutdown CB, IF he can keep his head on straight
5. Andruzzi
6. Abraham
7. Gates
8. Howard
9. Scott Fujita - the heart of Pisa, the size of Little, the instincts of London
10. Darius

A few other ideas: Marcus Coleman (FS), Andre Dyson (CB), Bubba Franks (TE), Chris Claiborne (LB), Chris Hovan (DT), Ben Hamilton (OG), Matt Willig (OT)

Re: 2005 Free Agent Top 10 Wish List (First Look!)

Do we have the cap space to make a realistic run at any top free agents?

I'd say it depends on what happens with Pace, Faulk, Little, Aeneas and others.

I'm glad Shades brought this up. It got me to thinkin'. You know what would be a nice thread? A thread dedicated to educating the masses about the salary cap. Call it Capology 101 or something. Personally, I couldn't tell you my butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to the ins-and-outs of the salary cap. Is there anyone that consideres themselves cap-savvy that would be willing to provide a thread with the basics of the cap?

Re: 2005 Free Agent Top 10 Wish List (First Look!)

Good lists. I especially like Dominic Raiola (C-Lions), a Husker product who would be a great physical run-blocker in the middle.

Andra Davis (Browns) wouldn't be a bad option at linebacker. He's big (6-1, 255), young, and can stop the run. He's also had a sack and a couple picks this year. Let's hope the Rams don't get desperate enough to look at bringing Jamie Duncan back.

Rod "He Hate Me" Smart (Panthers) and Allen Rossum (Falcons) are a couple decent returners on the list.

Re: 2005 Free Agent Top 10 Wish List (First Look!)

The first and foremost free agent for this team is The Big Man, orlando pace. If we cant sign him long term this time around, without the postons involved in the mess, no matter what else we will do, it will be two steps back.

Baxter Demps Hartwell from Balt and Smoot from Wash would be nice additions.
