2006 Rams Defensive Coordinator: First Day On The Job

DC: "Okay guys, let's run through some drills. Line up in base defense!"

[Players line up in standard formation with large gaps between the D linemen, the LBs packed in tight, and the CBs 10 yards off the ball]

DC: "Hold on! What in Holy Hell is that!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!"

Leonard Little: "Um... that's standard formation, Coach?"

DC: "What!!?!?!! How do you expect to stop anything with a formation like that?!?! Who taught you that crap!?!?!!?"

Little: "Um... its right here.... in... um... Coach Marmie's playbook."

DC: "Let me see that... Defense for Dummies?... that's your old playbook!?!?! Well, let me show you what I think about that."

[Throws playbook on the ground. Unzips fly and promptly "liquidates" the playbook.]

DC: "Okay, boys... we're starting from scratch. First task - forget everything you learned in the past 2 years. From now on, we're playing real defense. We're going to be in the offense's face and smacking them in the mouth. We're going to take pride in 3 and outs and turnovers, and we're going to get mad about every yard we give up. You hear me!!?!?!?!?!"

[A loud cheer rises from the defensive unit]

    How about this one

"Guys, the goal is to hit the qb when he drops back to pass, rather than allowing him to imitate the statute of liberty standing back in the pocket"

    ramming speed to all

Leonard Little: "See! I told you guys that we were supposed to go after the QB!"

Tony Hargrove: "You were right, man. My bad. I guess I owe you $10.00!"

DC: "Who in the sam hell drafted your sorry ass?"

Sorry Ass: "I dunno, but they tell me I'm good"

DC: "What the $%&^" ... "Son, how long have you been playing football?"

Sorry Ass: "Since I was a kid, coach"

DC: "And in all that time you never learned how to freaking tackle?"

Sorry Ass: "Sure I did coach, you just run real fast, hit them if you can, and hope they fall down"

DC: "What the $@#%" ... "And how's that been working for you, Son?"

Sorry Ass: "Well coach, it worked good in college, but for some reason the guys in the NFL don't fall down as easily"

DC: "*&^%, why did I take this job, these guys suck"
