2006 Rams draft class - worst in team history?

    1st round:
Tye Hill - Traded for a 7th round pick after a couple of injury-plagued and mediocre years.

    2nd round:
Joe Klopfenstein - Never caught on, beat out by players picked up off the street, would be a huge surprise if he is not cut before this season starts. Edit: just read that he has been cut as expected.

    3rd round:
Claude Wroten - Suspended for substance abuse, unlikely to play again for the Rams.

    3rd round:
Jon Alston - Cut before he even played in a single regular season game.

    3rd round:
Dominique Byrd - Cut early, spent 2008 out of football. Currently with the Cardinals.

    4th round:
Victor Adeyanju - Decent rotation player, still a part of the Rams roster.

    5th round:
Marques Hagans - Cut, currently out of football.

    7th round:
Tim McGarigle - Cut, attempting to revive his career in the UFL.

    7th round:
Mark Setterstrom - Solid depth player, still a part of the Rams roster despite injury problems.

    7th round:
Tony Palmer - Cut, never played for the Rams, currently out of football.

In my opinion this is the single worst draft class that I have ever seen. Not even the much maligned 2001 or 2002 draft classes are in this league of incompetence. Anybody remember a worse draft class or does the 2006 one take the prize?

Yeah, initially I wrote "the much maligned 2001 draft class", now I just revised it to "2001 or 2002" and hell now I'm considering changing it to "2000, 2001 or 2002". We've had some bad ones, but I think the 2006 draft takes the prize. **** I need to blow off some steam after looking through our recent (~10 years) drafts - I'm ****ing angry right now!

That has to be the worst draft in Rams history.

Al Davis can even take a few notes from it.

I'd suggest the "Lawrence Phillips" draft (1996) is up there as well.

1st round: Lawrence Phillips-cut late in the 1997 season
    1st round: Eddie Kennison-left team in 1998
2nd round: Tony Banks-traded to Ravens in 1998
2nd round: Ernie Conwell-stayed until 2002, decent role player for GSOT.
    3rd round: Jerald Moore-purged after 1998
4th round: Percell Gaskins-left team after 1996, left league after 1997.
5th round: Fred Miller-poached by Titans after the Super Bowl
6th round: Derrick Harris-left after Super Bowl, didn't exactly do much in 1999.
6th round: Hayward Clay-left team after 1996, surfaced with Dallas for a few games in 1998.
7th round: Chuck Osbourne-left team after 1996, surfaced with Oakland from 1998-99

No he's not in Chicago anymore. He is now in Cleveland and still imitating a turnstile.

I've got to go with 2001 for the simple fact that we had 3 first round picks and all of them were gone after there rookie contracts expired. Not to mention Tommy Polley and Brian Allen our 2nd and 3rd rounders respectively. Don't remember the rest of the picks from that year, but I'm sure they didn't hang around long either.

The thing is, Arch, Polley, Lewis and Pickett all contributed and started for this team for a decent amount of games. Yes they might not have panned out like they should have, but considering the 2006 draft class had hardly any starts at all, i think that is worse

I agree. Arch was a very good player until injuries. Lewis went to another team and started and Pickett is still a starter in the NFL and is considered a pretty darn good player. I think people confuse drafting with proper coaching and roster management.

But in reality, this is what happens when you have a set of lawyers making football decisions without a long term plan of action instead of football people. Even if you draft a talent, they don't necessarily fit into the system in place so they don't reach their potential.

I think you are right about 2006 class, some of the other draft class we got some production out of the players. 2006 is a very sad group of players.

IMO, 2006, 2000, & 1989 could all lay claim to biggest waste of a good April weekend.
