shouldn't we have gotten more picks? We gave the Cowbabies a top eight pick and a potential top 5 CB for years to come. Not mad at our pick, just a little upset about the ripoff.
Personally I love the selection of Brockers plus getting that extra 2nd round pick. I think this helps finish the remake of a defensive line that couldn't stop anyone from running on it. Improved presence in the middle means more pressure from the edges resulting in better results in the secondary.
Claiborne would have been nice but doesn't help the run. Brockers helps both.
A little disappointed we didn't get one of the top 2 receivers but there's a nice group of guys waiting to be picked in round 2 as well. Randle is a smart, physical receiver who can get open and Hill can blow the top off the defenses.
The reality is I don't care if they drafted the three stooges as long as we start winning.
Had to look Michael Brockers to remember what I thought of him--he didn't jump right out so i looks some more. Tall, 6'5 and 322, good size for DT and most aggree he is athletic but has undeveloped skills...Okkkie. So to recap the Rams traded down to get an unknown talent...considering he played but 2 seasons of college--not a lot body of work to gage him properly. Perhaps Fisher and the scouts saw something they could work with, hense he is a project.
Now granted there are few fail-proof draft picks (anyone ever here of R. Leaf or J. George?)--but considering the lack of a football resume, and what the Rams did pass up to get him...further consider last season weakness...I can see why there are not much excitement for this draft pick since the Rams gave away a top CB prospect
Yet, the Rams did pick up more draft picks--I still think the jury is still out on Michael Brockers. Have to see the results of rounds 2 and 3 in this draft before I can feel good about the 2012 season or dread.
I would of liked to see one more pick in that trade down. Maybe a 4th round next year or a 6th round this year. Just seems like we shoul of gotten a little extra in the trade.
Does the trade value equate in this trade?
I think people assume Brockers is much more raw than he really is. Brockers is absolutely massive at 6'5 322 lbs. He is a proven dominant run clogger. We have Kendall Langford to shoot gaps (who can stop the run extremely effectively), and Brockers, a BEAST at clogging the run. He only needs to develop his pass rushing techniques. He can use his hands a little better too, but that comes along with pass rushing ability. When he is taught how by Mike Waufle (one of the best defensive line coaches in the NFL) and Coach Fisher, he will be considered a top 5 DT in the NFL, I guarantee it.
I cannot even believe people are mad with this pick. We have a line that consists of :
Robert Quinn (1 yr pro) / Kendall Langford (4 yrs pro) / Michael Brockers (rookie) / Chris Long (4 yrs pro)
Yeah, I'm pissed too!...not.
I like the pick but I don't get why we didn't have a 5th rounder thrown into it for us! Dammit Snead, something here smells a little Fishy!
To everyone who says that there is no talent outside the 1st round and that any wide receiver taken after that is terrible:
Mike Williams 4th round 2010
Mike Wallace 3rd round 2009
DeSean Jackson 2nd round 2008
Mario Manningham 3rd round 2008
Steve Johnson 7th round 2008
Some of the top receivers of the 2011 season:
Wes Welker: Undrafted
Victor Cruz: Undrafted
Steve Smith: Rd 3
Jordy Nelson: Rd 2
Brandon Marshall: Rd 4
Mike Wallace: Rd 3
Marquis Colston: Rd 7
Antonio Brown: Rd 6
Vincent Jackson: Rd 2
Nate Washington: Undrafted
Stevie Johnson: Rd 7
DeSean Jackson: Rd 2
Greg Jennings: Rd 2
Jabar Gaffney: Rd 2
Pierre Garcon: Rd 6
Anquan Boldin: Rd 2
...the sky's not falling yet!
Michael Brockers DT 6'6 322 1st Round 14 pick, Albert Haynesworth DT 6'6 350 1st Round 15 pick both drafted by Fisher, hmmm quite similar.
I say bring in haynesworth as well . Haynesworth playing 15-20 snaps a game is solid compared to other rotational defensive players.
I'm not that upset we missed out on Blackmon or Floyd, there's not a lot you can do when a team jumps in front of you or takes your guy before you. I just would have prefered we stay at six and got Claiborne. We could have had the best CB duo in the league in a couple years. Hopefully Brockers and whoever we pick at #45 are worth passing that up.
