I like the pick...size, speed and the perfect name for a WR in the NFL!

Obviously I woulda liked to see us pick up someone else (Stephen Hill, Randle). I've never heard of this guy. I'm having flashes of Lance Kendricks and Donnie Avery all over again. Hopefully he contributes unlike pretty much every other receiver we've drafted the last six years.

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
Not sure what to think. Since he wasn't rated highly in most mock drafts, I didn't do any research on him. I wasn't too excited about other WRs like Sanu, Randle or Hill. But we needed a WR, the Rams took a long look at him and I love their other picks so far.

I don't know how Fisher is with finding diamonds in the rough, but this pick worries me.

Pro Football Weekly's quick take on Quick: 1 (33) St. Louis Rams: WR Brian Quick, Appalachian State
The Rams' most pressing need was receiver, where the roster lacks a true No. 1 or No. 2 for Sam Bradford to take the next step in his development and rebound from a sophomore slump. The Rams needed to add a playmaking talent. Head coach Jeff Fisher knows how to keep the offense simple which will be a requirement for Quick to realize his potential. He is an outstanding acrobat who can make phenomenal catches, but there could be a learning curve.

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
I didn't have him on my board simply because, as a small school guy, I felt unqualified to rate him. If the Rams thought he was the next best WR, I'm going to trust them. He certainly looks the part on film.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
I love the pick. We needed a reciever and we got one. The worst argument on draft day is that we could have had the guy later. Unless someone is psychic, there is no way at all to know that.

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
Like Hill, I worry he won't make an immediate impact. They said he gets nervous which was probably Kendricks' and Pettis problems. That stuff works it's way through after a few games. If he impressed them over Randle, how can someone argue against it? A lot of the highlights are bad throws where he has to adjust and jump up for the ball, makes the tougher catch?

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
I echo the comments of those who trust in the Rams FO in making this pick. Most lists I saw had several WR's projected ahead of him.

Re: 2012 Rams Second Round Pick (#33): Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State
Good selection IMHO!

Brian Quick
WR Appalachian St.
6-4", 220 lbs.
OVERVIEW
Quick has very uncommon size for the position and surprises scouts with his ability to run. The fact that he is a former basketball player and high jumper shows in his play. Despite his short time playing football, he understands how to run routes and get open. He will set up defenders at his level and snap off routes effectively to make a play with his strong hands. He can make the big play in traffic and also use his big frame to be a large target and make the play on the ball to finish jump balls and deep passes. While he hasn't had much experience at a high level of football, he has displayed enough of the size and athletic ability to make plays that all translate well to the next level. Look for Quick to be the highest pick from Appalachian State in years and be taken early in the second round.
ANALYSIS / Grade 87.4
Strengths
Quick's size is his greatest asset, with the next best being potential. His overall time playing football has been limited, and professional coaching could help mold Quick into a game changer at the next level. He is a reliable hands catcher who has the catching radius and grip strength to bring down any ball thrown near his area. He is a great option in the short game, as he understands how to use his frame to shield out smaller defenders. As a deep threat, Quick hasn't shown the speed to be a go-to option here at the next level, but once the ball is in the air is when his raw athletic ability is evident through his ability to out-leap defenders.
Weaknesses
Inexperience, while also a positive in terms of the development aspect of his move to the NFL, is also his Achilles heel. He hasn't shown the ability to run by big-time corners at his level, but other than this uncontrollable aspect of his game, Quick has displayed as much as he can at the FCS level to show scouts his game translates nicely to the NFL. He sometimes has trouble adjusting to poorly thrown balls but normally can make the play using his strong hands. Being tested early in camp will give the greatest indication of Quick's ability to handle the jump in talent surrounding him.Last edited by RealRam; -04-27-2012 at 10:17 PM. Reason: Format
