590 Barron Report
Just heard on 590 that Barron did participate today, but as left tackle.
Martz and Coaches were thinking that they would be able to get him up to speed easier at his natural left postion.
Word is, that he did study the playbook, and he was working out on his own, and it has shown in his first day of working with the team. He looked much better then he did earlier at the mini-camps.
At least this all sounds encouraging.
Lets hope.

Re: 590 Barron Report
It does sound encouraging, but I don't think I like the idea of putting him on the left side. The guy's got to get used to blocking on the right side, and it seems to me having him start on the left is just going to delay his getting used to footwork on the right. Hopefully I'm proved wrong.

Re: 590 Barron Report
I do agree on that aspect..however, its allowing Willig and Tucker to work on the right side, so considering that Pace is proven, and his injury is minor, this does seem like a good way to maximize as many Tackles as possible, and get them all involved and working at the position.
Hopefully hes gifted enough to make the adjustment.

Re: 590 Barron Report
This makes me wonder a few things!!
1) Is Pace worse off than they are leading us to believe
2) Are they not looking at hime to play the right side at all this year, and are hoping for next season
I wonder if reading between the lines here something we all should be concerned about.

Re: 590 Barron Report
It's simple! Put Pace at RT.After all he is our Best lineman! If i where a player and we as a team needed help in another position and i could play that position! I'd tell the coach to put me there especially if AB could handle the left side! OP if you do read these threads you should think about it! All players wants to be known as the best at their position and this would help put the icing on the cake! Not to mention that it would certainly have your teammates and all others looking up to you! It would also show everyone that you are not an I player but, a team player!.............Your name would go to Canton for sure as 1 of the most versatile Olineman to ever play the game! Not to mention shutting all your critics up!.............Slater did it and by my standards that man was 1 of the greatest linemen to have ever put on a uniform ! Rams player or not!

I think that's a bit too speculative.
My guess is that it is merely Martz's attempt to boost the rookie's confidence while Pace heals up.

Re: 590 Barron Report
it makes sense to me. put the kid at LT where he is more comfortable for a few days while he is soaking up information. generally, if you are more comfortable, you will pick up things and retain information better. now, if he continues to play at LT for more than a few days, then we might have to worry about Pace's status...

Which is exactly why he'll stay at left tackle. I don't want a rookie protecting Bulger's blindside.

Re: 590 Barron Report
Things that make you go hmmmmmm...
qoute from Wagoner:
"- Alex Barron worked out for the first time with the team, taking all of his repetitions at left tackle. Coach Mike Martz said Barron will be on the left side for the foreseeable future because he is comfortable with Rex Tucker and Matt Willig on the right side. That remains to be seen, but Barron acquitted himself pretty well for his first day. He is much more natural on the left side and played better in his first practice than at any point during the mini-camp."

Only if AB could handle the position better from the left than the right!..........Id rather give up 1 sack a game than 3 or 4! Let the kid get some confidence in him! Who knows he might be quit capable of protecting the blind side!

Re: 590 Barron Report
I think the reason Barron is working at left tackle is because Martz wants veteran talent and experience at right tackle. Willig is being moved there, Tucker is there, and Williams would probably be there if he wasn't hurting. That leaves who behind Pace? No one, until now. Having Barron working back there not only works him in at a position he's more comfortable with - even though I think that at least partially delays his progress a bit on the right side since he's not getting used to the technique on the right - but also allows those other players to compete for the RT spot since Barron likely isn't in the immediate running.
That said, the guy hasn't even played in a preseason game. He's completed his first day of training camp today. Probably too soon to be suggesting that he stay at LT and Pace moves to the other side of the line, IMO.

Re: 590 Barron Report
This Means the don't expect to use him this year..
It's very easy to figure this out.. We have a GLARING need at RT and Orlando Pace is at the other tackle. This is an indication they don't think (and they've said as much) they can get any use from Barron this year at Right Tackle.
It's quite obvious
However, I do agree with Nick, you can't take much from the first day of camp.

Re: 590 Barron Report
CAUTION:
I'm reading that Martz is saying he's comfortable with what we
have at Right Tackle.
1) That's to preserve the confidence of the Right Tackles. Defend your players in the media, even praise them (motivation).
2) If that was true, they would NOT have drafted Barron. Why sign Pace and Barron for Left T .... That's Idiotic, we all know that.
3) How many OT's did Martz feel good about, in the media, while
Warner and Bulger were getting Murdered. The guy - who was it John St. Clair? and then his replacement and then his replacement.
It's like after the draft, Trung Candidiate has qualities like no one else in the draft - a new dimension. We heard about with the Lineback from UCLA (Robert Thomas).. can't teach speed, he has all the talent, the heart, the desire.. Compared to Singletary.
I don't know what it is about Martz, maybe he's just so excitable, but he praises his players to the Umpth degree.
Barron is young and has already been criticized in the press, probably to preserve his ego and confidence - Martz HAS to say
something positive about Barron being practiced at Left tackle. When 3 months ago - he said - I think we found our Right tackle when speaking about Barron after the draft.

Good point. Either Pace's injury is worse than what is reported or something else is up in the air.
Inquiring minds want to know.
