Re: With the 99th pick in the NFL Draft, the Rams select Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnat

Griffen was picked 100th by the Vikings.

    No love for the defense?

My question is where Gilyard fits into the pecking order here. If he's one of our top three receivers, it's probably a good move. Otherwise, I might have rather had one of the tight ends or defensive ends remaining.

I like Gilyard, I think he's a fine player, but I guess my concern is if you're drafting a receiver this late in the draft, are you getting someone who is going to be much of an improvement over what we already have?

My contention has been that the Rams need to add someone who can be a #1 receiver at this level. Is that Gilyard? Only time will tell, but the chances probably aren't as good as someone like Benn whom we could have had in the second round.

What I like about Gilyard is that he's more quick and agile than fast, and that could be a good fit in our offense if he can bring some YAC ability to some short routes. Having said that, Gilyard is a threat to score any time he touches the ball. The Rams will likely have him compete immediately for return duties, and he'll be in the mix for some time in the slot.

The Rams need offensive weapons, and Gilyard is one of the better receivers still on the board. I like him better in the fourth round than I would have the second or third, but I also probably would have preferred a tight end here.

Rams are going BPA here, and apparently Gilyard was head and shoulders above the other guys. Gilyard just happen to fall in the BPA slot. Great choice, if Hernandez isn't rated closely, no need to reach for him. Let the draft fall to you.

According to the Rams' Twitter account, "Devaney says Gilyard was clearly highest rated guy on the board. Team knew last night he was going to be the guy."

Give the Rams credit for sticking to their board. They've made good value picks in every round, and haven't reached significantly like other teams have to fill needs.

This is the safest draft I've seen in years with the Rams. Really don't think we should of taken a WR. Next year we will be getting a real weapon at that position in Green or Jones...

I LOVE this pick at this spot.

Gilyard, on the field, played like a Top 50 player. The knocks on him were that he wasn't as fast as people expected (4.60 at combine) and that he didn't practice all tha well at the Senior Bowl. In the Senior Bowl game, though, he was a playmaker, just like he was at Cinncinnati.

The Rams need guys like him, and in Round 4... how can you argue.

Awesome pick. We need a great return man to score and consistently get us good field position. Amendola was really good, but only once or twice last year did he really pull off a great return, and his receiving skills weren't exactly great. Gilyard is a better version of Amendola (and I'll miss you, Danny).

Aaron Hernandez would have been a much better target for Bradford to throw too. Bradford's first year in the league he's going to need a safety blanket to rely on and the Rams are in desperate need of a TE. He would have filled that need perfectly. I like Mardy Gilyard but can't understand why the Rams are adding more depth to the WR position.

I've watched Gilyard play at UC. He's a good receiver and hard working. I like the selections for the most part so far.
I stated before that if we took Bradford, it would make sense to go mostly offense with the rest of the draft this year, especially in the earlier rounds and that's what we've done with the exception of Murphy. Not sure I understand that pick but so far I think this is not a bad draft for the Rams.
Next year we'll need to address the defense with the early picks.

Reminds me a lot of Ochocinoc without the antics. I was pretty down when we didn't take a TE but after getting to know him more I am exctied for Gilyard.

Love it. Mardy is one of the recievers i loved in this draft. he has plenty of speed on the field, watch his highlights and watch how many people he burns. Hes very good at making people miss also. Can't wait to see this guy on the field. We might actually have a return threat finally.

    Can't complain with this pick.

I just don't know how he'll fit in here. Who would we kick out for a spot for him?
