***** beat out Rams for DL Sims
By Bill Coats
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/23/2008

The rival San Francisco ***** have beaten out the Rams for the services of veteran defensive lineman Barry Sims.

On Monday, Sims agreed to a two-year free-agent deal with the Niners. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Sims, 33, started 119 games, mostly at left tackle, in nine seasons with Oakland before the Raiders released him Feb. 29.
He met with coach Scott Linehan, offensive coordinator Al Saunders and offensive line coach Steven Loney on June 13 at Rams Park.
"The meeting went very well, and I had had some good talks with (personnel chief) Billy Devaney," said Ken Vierra, Sims’ agent. "From a football perspective, San Francisco and St. Louis both afforded Barry an opportunity to come in and compete. That's all he was looking for."

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Sims also made visits to New England and Baltimore, but the Rams and ***** emerged as the finalists.
"It was a tough call," Vierra said. "When it came time to put a deal together, the ***** were really aggressive. That was the difference." Sims was signed by Oakland during training camp in 1999 as an undrafted rookie out of the University of Utah. He became a full-time starter in 2001.

Meh. Whatever. We have a solid line so far. I'm not upset with this. Lets just watch Clifton Ryan and Adam Carriker knock him on his A$$.

Re: *** **** *****

Yeah, no kidding. why would a free agent DL be talking with the Offensive Coord. and O-Line coach of the Rams? what a tard. I'm starting to see a heck of a lot more errors and crap like that on some of the major "news" sites too. Quality and service have definitely gone down the tubes lately. pathetic.

as for Sims picking S.F. it makes sense since he's already settled in that area. Rams were already short stacked on that one. This may not be a big loss, but I have to admit it would've been really really nice to see Barron getting some top notch competition and to know the Rams will have a good backup option for the tackle spot. I'd like to see the Rams get someone more than a utility guy to step in if Barron or Pace gets injured or needs a breather. Gorin is decent but there's really no one else except for maybe Greco. Hopefully the rookie will shine as a tackle and Sims will be a distant memory except for 2x a year, when our DL puts him on his butt.

I guess it's depth so I suppose that's a good thing.

On the other hand, the guy led the league in false starts last year and has been a starter on one of the worst offensive lines in the league over the past few seasons.

Meh. I don't think you're missing anything.

Oh man, could you imagine the horror of Sims at one tackle and Barron at the other? We'd never get an offensive play off. It would be 1st and 25 for the whole game. This would be a form of Chinese water torture. You know its coming and what's about to happen, and yes it eventually drives you insane.

BTW what does Meh stand for, please?

WHAT SAY YE?

It's basically an expression of indifference.
