INDIANAPOLIS - Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi yesterday essentially acknowledged the Rams made an inquiry to see if the Giants are interested in left tackle
Orlando Pace, but he said there are no ongoing trade discussions.
"There are inquiries made all the time about players," Accorsi said. "That's as much as I'll say."
The rumors were flying fast and furious at yesterday's scouting combine, with one suggestion that the Giants might be willing to deal defensive end Michael Strahan for Pace in a player-for-player deal.
Accorsi insisted that won't happen, especially given that the Giants would take a massive salary-cap hit if they unloaded Strahan.
But there certainly is intrigue in the Giants' organization about Pace, and it is possible they will revisit the situation sometime before the April 23 draft. One team official said the team "would love to have Pace." But he doesn't think the Giants have enough to give the Rams in return. The Giants traded their first-round pick to San Diego in last year's deal to get quarterback Eli Manning.
The Giants also believe the Rams are trying to see if they can spur Pace into signing a long-term contract.
