Aeneas status
What is the status of aeneas. i didnt see any official retirement announcement notwithstanding the rampant speculation in that regard. Can he come back as the third safety at the vet minimum, in which case he will only count about 450k against the cap? I know he is not an every down guy anymore, but he could be an effective role player.

Re: Aeneas status
If he'd be willing to sign for vet min., I'd love to see him there. He would mean as much in Arch & Pisa's ears as he would on the field. Just that player/coach mentality would be a huge boost to our new position safeties.

Absolutely right, HUbison. I agree.

I don't know what to think about Aeneas. I'd definitely take him back if he signs for cheap. He might even still be a better option than Archuleta at FS, and we know he'd be valuable in nickel situations.

I would love to see williams back at the right price or even in a coaching role if he finally retires.... rookies could learn a thing or two from this vet.....

Re: Aeneas status
Clearly you haven't completely thought about Archuleta's pass coverage skills. Give me Aeneas' coverage skills over Archuleta's any day. Even if he is 36 or whatever.

Aeneas' stature / Archuleta's growing pains
As far as stature is concerned, Captain Aeneas is at defense what Marshall Faulk is at offense.
Tremendous value as mentor, exemplary maturity and dedication, reliable. Yes, age is really up there and, alas, injuries are due on any cue.
Aeneas Williams is a great DB, pass coverage par excellence (again, age a clear detrimental factor). Knows the game 'a la Marshall'.
Archuleta is a superb strength athlete ... is learning, improving into a better safety. Learning from one the NFL's all time best. I trust he grew quite a bit in the 2004 campaign, painfully but effectively.
