Alex Marvez - NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
Didn't see this up yet . . . .
I don't think I know enough about Brown to really say to much, but I thought he was one of the best centers on the market this year?WORST FREE-AGENT SIGNING: St. Louis giving ex-Baltimore center Jason Brown a five-year, $37.5 million contract with $20 million guaranteed.
The Rams needed to upgrade their offensive line, but overpaid for a player whose limited athleticism makes him a better fit at guard.
"There's only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything. I do, and I demand that my players do."

Re: Alex Marvez - NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
The Miami Dolphins were hot on the trail of Brown.
The Rams beat them to the punch and signed him.
Marvez is a Dolphins beat writer.
Any questions?
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Since when does a player need extraordinary athleticism to play center? He's wedged in between two guards and helps take on defensive tackles. Usually when you hear about athleticism in conjunction with an offensive lineman, they're talking about an OT who has to be able to handle speed. With interior linemen, I think you're looking more for strength.

Here's what Marvez had to say about Brown in a February 27, 2009, article:
The 6-foot-3, 320-pound Brown is considered the top interior lineman in this year's free-agent class. He was moved from guard to center in 2008 and started every game for a second consecutive season. Brown also is only 25 years old.

Re: Alex Marvez - NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
So The Fins answer was to sign Jake Grove- who has only one 16 game season in his career on a mediocre Raiders O-line- to a 5 yr 29 mill deal with a 12 mill signing bonus? Hmmm...

Someone should email this guy and put him on blast. If someone can track down his email I would be more than happy to give him my 2 cents on what I think about him
