    All Indications Say PACE SIGNED!

Big Orlando was just on 590 KFNS and it appears that the Rams and Big O have reached a deal. Nothing is official but Pace said "I think the people in St. Louis will be very happy" and he's getting on a plane and hopes to have a deal done by the time he lands. I didn't hear the interview but I got the scoop from my father.

It will be replayed in the next hour so I will listen and try to give you all a recap.

This is good! This is very good!

Re: All Indications Say PACE SIGNED!

I can't give you much verification other than my word. Here's a few tidbits from Bernie.

Mike Claiborne (KFNS) had a lengthy discussion with Orlando Pace -- last night and then again today.

Claiborne believes the Rams and Pace are very close to reaching a deal.

That was the indication he got from Orlando.

And Pace confirmed on KFNS just now, saying, "we're very close."

The Rams sweetened their offer today (Tuesday)

Pace just finished up an interview on KFNS.

Pace just said "we're close. I'm about to get on a plane right now (to Orlando) and hopefully by the time I land, we'll have a deal."

He said turning point was the Houston trip...it brought about a new offer from the Rams...structure of the deal (apparently) was tweaked by the Rams...Pace said that means more to him then the end number in the contract -- which I take to mean that the Rams moved more of the money to the front part of the deal.

"It was important to me to get money up front," Pace told KFNS. "The way the deal was structured was important to me." Pace joked that he's lost his way to Macomb...said it's important for him to be in camp, "get back on track, and do the things I do well...I miss the camp to some extent, just being around the fellows."

As for criticism he's received in STL, Pace said, "It was tough, but as far as the fans go, they want a winner. I can understand that, but a lot of people don't understand the business part. You have to take care of the business befdore you get on the field."

    Great job by Claibs.

Other than that all I can do is give you a recap of the interview when it's replayed in the 5:00 hour CST. I wouldn't lie about something like this to you guys. The ClanRam community has too much integrity for that.

Re: All Indications Say PACE SIGNED!

My notes after listening to the interview online.

    Asked about trip in Houston:
Treated well, made him feel good. Felt like he was being recruited like in college.

    Rams have stepped up offer:
-We're close right now. On his way back to Orlando. Hopes a deal will be done by the time he gets done so he can sign it.

-Communication has been open and Jay and other Rams guys have been open with each other.

    BUFFERING

    Asked about franchise tag:
-Pace says it's not good for either side. Not fair to both sides.

On the turning point of negotiations:
-Houston trip played a big part. Jay and Rams really wanted to get a deal done, showed through communication.
-Ending figure isn't the biggest part, structure of contract is.

On the structure of his contract:
-Going into 9th year so it was very important for him and everybody in his situation to get money up front.

    On Training Camp:
-Asked for directions to Macomb, might've lost his way. Important for him to go through offseason with the Rams again, get off to a good start.
-FUn just to get back, missed it somewhat. Missed hanging out with the fellas.

-Working hard to get a deal done, and excited to get this kind of security. Very happy about it.

    On Peterson injury:
-Julian Peterson injury crossed mind while he was under the franchise tag.

-Not a bitter negotiation. Changing agents was good for him and has worked out well so far.

-Fans want a winner and he understand their side. A lot of people don't understand the business side. "Now that we're close to getting a deal done I think everybody is going to be happy in St. Louis."

    Did the plane land yet?

He said turning point was the Houston trip...it brought about a new offer from the Rams...
I knew his new agent was smart. Send him to visit another team and watch the Rams bump up their offer. Not that I want him to get more than he deserves, but I figured it was more a tactic to get the 2 sides closer, than actually trying to go to Houston.
