I guess some of us were drinking some haterade when Bartell was offered a huge contract and was questionable for it in hindsight but he's proven to be a great corner for us. His speed is absolutely underrated especially after he beat Jamaal Charles in a footrace.

All I know is that the defense has been completely revamped in Spags image since he came to town, and Bartell is still there. He must be doing something right.

I don't really hear too much about Bartell, but when I do it is usually good.

Isn't that that definition of a good, solid CB?

In my opinion, there is no argument here. He is an amazing fit, great veteran, great leader, and a terrific player. He and Fletcher in my opinion will dominate the league soon enough.

Bartell has played hard for the Rams for several years, including during times when he was injured. He has been an above average cover-corner. He has emerged as a team leader who was intrumental in organizing offseason workouts during the lockout.

But, instead of focusing on all of that, some of you would rather make a couple of dropped interceptions Bartell's defining characteristic.

Here's a news flash. Peyton Manning throws interceptions every season. Larry Fitzgerald drops passes every now and then. Chris Johnson sometimes gets tackled in the backfield. Ray Lewis misses tackles once in a while.

There are no perfect players in the NFL.

Bartell does not deserve to be defined by his mistakes.
My thing is that there are alot of CBs out there just like Bartell. Good cover men, can't catch. When his contract comes back up, wouldn't be surprised to see a pay cut or release if he doesn't make some big plays starting this year. He's locked up through 2012 and is most of the time lined up against the top corner but no INTs in 2010? Even you Av can see he needs to improve that if the Rams are going to win the division. He has even said it.

Amazing how if someone doesn't meet their criteria of 40 interceptions in a season that they are trash players. Bartell has been a great piece of the puzzle to have and it is very unfair to degrade him. Now saying that, that doesn't mean I don't jump up at the TV and and scream and curse and rant when the ball hits him dead set in his hands and he drops it!!!! But even still, he is a BAD ASS!!! Case closed!!!

Not trashing Bartell, just not saying he doesn't need to do more to win.

I have been on this board for a while and have come to like and respect you TX but I think you judge Mr. Bartell a bit hard!! I gurantee he's the type of player that realises this big miscoming of his and will get it corrected.

And he has. Not saying anything he hasn't said. He said it alot last year that he should have interceptions, he just dropped them. Let's hope he doesn't this year.

Solid cover corner good leader IMO he could start for alot of teams around the league IMO. He will always get knocked for not making enough big plays, but neither does Nmadi Asomoguah.

Should be interesting battle between Bartell and Lauranatis to replace OJ as our defensive captain.

Got a question? You think Long will ever get up into that area of leadership?

Re: For all you Bartell haters out there.

Bartell is a top-15 CB in the league. If he was on another higher profile team, his name would be known.

Metrically, he was the 6th best corner in the league in 2008 and 7th last year. He slipped in 2009 but was injured most of the season.

I'd argue this with anybody. It's rare that Bartell gets abused or beaten badly. He's a sound tackler, and works very hard. His play where we ran down Michael Turner from behind and stripped the ball in 2009, when he was injured, will always remain one of my favorite plays EVER.

Lack of big plays aside. He'll probably always be a good cover corner with not a lot of INTs to show for it. But what he did this summer for the good of the team, cannot be measured. And if the Rams go on to do something big this year, we'll have those type of gestures to thank for it.

    Last 4 seasons...

    Player/Tackles/Passes Defended/Interceptions

    Nnamdi Asomugha: 127/26/3
    Ron Bartell: 253/47/5

Does that mean that Bartell is the better CB? No. But maybe it shows that stats (i.e. interceptions) are not the best measure of a CB.

Your statement strikes me as rather odd - considering your join date and the fact that tx has barely been around since that date.

Other than that I'd have to agree with you about Ron Bartell.
