Angioplasty is next on Vitt agenda
By Jim Thomas
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
10/30/2005
Just when you thought nothing else could happen to the Rams this season, interim head coach Joe Vitt is scheduled to undergo an angioplasty procedure this morning in St. Louis.
Vitt could not be reached to comment Sunday night. He made no mention of the procedure to reporters in his news conference after the Rams' 24-21 victory over Jacksonville. But Vitt did tell his players after the game that he was scheduled for the procedure. Team sources confirmed Sunday evening that he will have the procedure.
An angioplasty is a medical procedure in which a balloon is used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels of the heart. The average hospital stay is less than two days, and for some people an overnight hospital stay is not required. Patients generally are able to walk within six hours, and complete recovery takes a week or less.
Vitt is scheduled to go in for the procedure at 6 a.m. today, and sources close to Vitt said he had not ruled out attending the usual 3 p.m. Monday news conference at Rams Park.
The Rams are entering their bye week and don't play again until Nov. 13 at Seattle.
Vitt scheduled the angioplasty for today long before he became interim head coach. It is said to be more of a preventive procedure for Vitt.
He is 2-1 as head coach since Mike Martz took a leave of absence for a bacterial infection of the heart known as endocarditis.

Wow, this is not just a pedicure, or even a poke in the eye. It's a very stressfull event.
With all the pressures thrown on Vitt's plate and anticipating this it's a wonder the man didn't blow plum up.
A weak ticker - but the man has stones.
