Another tight end signs contract with Rams
Another tight end signs contract with Rams
05/31/2006
POST-DISPATCH
The Rams have added to their growing stable of tight ends by signing free agent Alex Holmes, who played in eight games for the Miami Dolphins last year as an undrafted rookie. Holmes, who suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason, had one catch for 2 yards. The Dolphins released him earlier this month.
Holmes, 24, is a 6-foot-1, 265-pound native of Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was used mainly as a blocker at the University of Southern California, where another Rams tight end, third-round draft choice Dominique Byrd, played his college football. The team also drafted a tight end in the second round, Colorado's Joe Klopfenstein, and signed Jonathan Williams of New Hamphsire as an undrafted rookie.

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
Hmmm. They say 'competition is good' but I think my shot in the dark will hit this TE as temporary help for training purposes only. Too small, too many TEs already.
If we know this, so does he, right? So does everyone.
Still, thanks, Alex Holmes. :clanram:

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
I don't know. We're pretty heavy on pass-catchers, but I had heard we might be in the market for a veteran blocking tight end. Eight games isn't exactly what I'd call veteran, but do we have any other TEs on the roster who really excel at blocking?

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
As of right now I think he has a good chance to make the roster as a blocking TE, what are our other options?

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
I don't see anything happening on the June 1 front, so this could be his job to lose.
That being said, do we have enough room for 2 TE's who are pass catchers and 1 TE who is a blocker? 3 TE's seems quite a bit to me.

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
1 catch for 2 yards? thats all? I dont like that..... If he did make the roster, he will probably be a blocking TE like other people said. but what if Joe klop and Dominique Byrd dont suceed in blocking, would Holmes go in every time we need an extra blocker? if he did go in every time, other teams might figure our stratgy (spelling). like if we did running plays and every time we did running plays, the other team would figure it out cuz holmes went in as TE

This also could be a special teams concern , I know they want speed and size on that unit , Some are saying that our D is a little under sized , so it could be in they are looking to back up the D with good field pos for our D to work with ...Just a thought? ...

St. Louis Rams TE Alex Holmes one-year contract with the Rams included a base salary of $350,000.
I'm not complaining.RamsFan16

Re: Another tight end signs contract with Rams
If we're going to sign anybody from the Dolphins, please let it be Jason Taylor or McMichael.
