Anquan Bolin Mistake
This may be very late and all, but why didn't we go after Anquan Boldin?
I understand he was a division rival and it would have been hard to get him, but c'mon the Ravens got him for a 4th round pick. They guy IMHO is top 3 WR's in the NFL.
He is so tough, strong, fast and is a fantastic WR. I would of given up a 2nd for the dude. I also am aware that he needed to restructure a contract...correct?
Anyways, I would have LOVED for him to be here but I guess not.

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
I'll respond to your question with another question - why on Earth would Arizona trade Boldin within the division?

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
Yeah flip....the Eagles traded McNabb I'm assuming that the Redskins had the best offer and the Eagles decided to take it.....but yeah I understand what you're saying Nick..
We offer a 2nd and the Ravens offer a 4th ....what do you think there opted to take? The 33rd pick or the 123rd pick....(they ended up giving that pick to the saints)

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
Very very very simple answer.
With the rams ownership in limbo, there was no way in the world that Chip was laying out big money in the form of a signing bonus to a free agent, especially since he knew that he was highly likely to get hit with a bill check to bradford before the sale closed. This is typical in what happens when companies are in limbo pending the closing of a sale transaction.
we might or might not have chased boldin anyway, but given the ownership situation, it was never going to happen.
Its a new world with Kroenke in charge.

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
It just saddens me so much to know that the Ravens got a PROVEN WR in this league for a 4TH!!! If we were going to go after A.J Green or Julio Jones next year, I'd rather just trade our 1 for Boldin....

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
Even if we assume that a ridiculous trade offer convinces Arizona, do the Rams want to put together a ridiculous trade offer for Boldin, a soon to be 30 year old receiver who hasn't played a full 16 game season since 2006? Maybe you do it for a Brandon Marshall or a Vincent Jackson because of their youth and current production, but for Boldin, I just don't see it happening.
A few things. One, the Ravens traded a third round pick AND a fourth round pick to Arizona for Boldin and a fifth round pick. It wasn't just a Boldin for a 4th rounder straight up. Two, I'd much rather spend our 2011 first round pick on an elite WR prospect next year than trade it away for Boldin; I couldn't disagree with you more on that one.Last edited by Nick; -08-27-2010 at 04:27 PM.

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
Woops about the trade mistake... thanks for clearing that up but I love what Boldin brings..
A.J Green or Julio Jones would be counted lucky to have a career like Anquan has had. And I am not worried on the injury thing and the fact that he hasn't played a full season for years..kind of like Steven Jackson if you think about it

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
Boldin would have been nice, but I'm glad we held onto that 2nd rounder and took Saffold. I think that's going to prove to be the wiser move in the long run.

Re: Anquan Bolin Mistake
There is just NO way to look at any trade that was made for boldin by analyzing the draft picks. Trust me when i tell you guys that the rams werent trading a 5th round pick for boldin because with ownership in limbo, they simply were not going to write that kind of a check. Any analysis of the trade has to take into consideration what the ravens decided to pay boldin, ie the 10 million guaranteed dollars. Not happening in rams land with an outgoing owner and a team in limbo. I dont care how many public statements the team made about sticking to their operating budget and the ownership situation not impacting free agency, its just not true.
With kroenke on board anything is possible. It doesnt mean that stan is going to do anything stupid or give the front office a blank check, but it does mean that if a move can be made that is the right move for the team, the rams are at least capable of pulling the trigger and spending the money if they choose to do so.
