Any interest in Posey for LB depth?

James Posey just got cut from the Buffalo Bill, a vet LB. Should the Rams have any interest for LB depth?

I'm not convinced he's a very good fit for this scheme, so no.

It would depend on how Chillar and Smith are working out, if you ask me. If he brings a considerable amount to the table more than them, then maybe.

By the way, I hear RF16 really likes this guy. Just playin', youngster.

Its no problem, I know I want to sign alot of people . Except Posey. If we signed any Vet. LB I'd be more comfortable with Mark Fields even though he is coming off of a disease. But Fields would be a good Backup SLB or Starting one either way if he comes back from the disease fully he'd be a good backup IMO.

Fields or Posey would be good additions. Raonall Smith besides being a special teams player is injury prone. Just food for thought.

I'm curious why you would want Fields more than Posey. In the last three years, Posey has been a consistent starter in Buffalo, missing only two games. Fields has only played in 14 games over the last three years, is older, and has serious health concerns that have kept him off the field.

The thing with Posey is that he really didnt have too much competition in Buffallo, and it seems the first sign of competition from young Angelo Crowell leads to Posey being released. That isnt really a good sign.

Did Posey asked to be released so he could go elsewhere? If not then i dont like the look of that.

It was a choice made by Dick Jauron because he felt Angelo Crowell was a better fit for the defensive scheme due to his speed and ability to play in space.

Exactly Nick. From what I read, Posey is a big, slow run stopper, and the new scheme requires fast to cover areas.

Not saying I am interested, just read the report today and wondered myself if we would be interested.

So what are the particulars on Posey? I.E. Ht. Wt. Age, etc. Do you think he would sign for the vet minimum?

    WHAT SAY YE?

Re: Any interest in Posey for LB depth?

He's listed at 6'4", 241 and turns 31 next month.

I don't think he is particularly playing poorly right now; he just doesn't fit what the Bills need and earns too much to be a backup. He has been the starter for the last 3 years, and he's probably looking for an opportunity to start again, so I doubt he'd sign for the minimum.

When he first came to Buffalo, he was thought of as more of a pass rusher (8 sacks for the Texans the year before). I think he used to be a defensive end, but the Bills haven't used him in the blitzing game much. They've had him taking on blockers and stopping the run more.

Re: Any interest in Posey for LB depth?

Look, I just don't see much of a reason for the Rams to pursue him for the SAM linebacker position. Posey is more of a pass rush specialist who is good close to the line but is not very good in coverage, which is rather important for the guy who will be lining up across from the tight end and may have to cover him man to man. Furthermore, I really hope that as more players get released as the season approaches, we don't have calls for the Rams to look at all of them. Guys have to be able to fit in with what you're doing, and I don't think Posey does that for us.

Welcome to the board, Matt! We appreciate your input. Do you have any detailed information to back up why you think he would start for us, or is it more of a gut feeling or hunch?

    Welcome to the Clan, MJT!

One never knows how trades and transactions end up being in the NFL but I'm not sure that ex-Bill LB J. Posey would be pursued right now by the Rams -- as good as credentials he carries with him -- and they are excellent.

I want to think that, barring injury, we are pretty much set at LBs (I just had a meeting with our coaches this morning).
