Always the jokester, Charley Armey poked his head into the media workroom Sunday afternoon and proclaimed: "And you guys thought you were rid of me."
Armey, the Rams' general manager, received a scare Saturday afternoon when he experienced arm and chest pains between the first and second rounds of the draft at Rams Park.
"I was just sweating and my blood pressure was high," Armey said.
But Armey said he wasn't overly concerned, especially with Rams team doctors in the building.
"They figured I just got really dehydrated and run down a little bit because I hadn't had a lot of sleep," Armey said. "And my blood pressure's high, so they just wanted to be precautionary."
Armey stayed through the selection of the Rams' second-round pick - Colorado tight end
Joe Klopfenstein - and then went to Missouri Baptist Medical Center for tests and further evaluation. He was hospitalized overnight but was back at work Sunday for Day 2 of the draft.
"I wasn't very excited about leaving (Saturday)," said Armey, who was participating in his ninth draft with the Rams. But president of football operations Jay Zygmunt convinced him a hospital visit was for the best.
At the hospital, "They took blood, EKGs, and I was on the heart monitor," Armey said. "On Monday, we do the stress test."
Then he quipped, "They took X-rays of my head, and they showed nothing."
Armey looked fit and energetic Sunday.
"He feels great," coach
Scott Linehan said. "I think Charley feels very fortunate, as we all do, about everything checking out fine."
