Atogwe signs a multi-year contract with the Rams.

Sitting before a crowded auditorium at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens on Wednesday morning, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo was asked point blank whether safety Oshiomogho Atogwe would be re-signed.

Spagnuolo gave a knowing smile, nodded and told the fan the Rams were “getting close” and to keep his fingers crossed. Little did anyone know just how close the Rams and Atogwe were to completing a deal.

Only a few hours after Spagnuolo answered the question, the Rams and Atogwe came to terms on a long term contract that will keep the team’s starting free safety in St. Louis for the foreseeable future.

“We are excited to have O.J. back in the fold,” Spagnuolo said. “We were always hopeful for this result. We look forward to having his leadership, character and talent back on our defense.”

Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

“I’m at peace,” Atogwe said. “I am very excited to be coming back. It was a long drawn out process but I believe it was supposed to be that way just so that the right decision could be made. I believe and am thankful that the right decision was made.”

Hopefully we didn't spend too much.

Nice to see some loyalty and willingness to compromise from Atogwe.

Great to see the Rams FO being vindicated for its handling of Atogwe's situation, which was largely criticized when they made the initial tender.
While we don't know the money details, I am presuming that Atogwe has agreed to reasonable terms.

Great to have OJ back in the fold! If Brad Fletcher can come back healthy and Jerome Murphy can contribute, the DBs look pretty strong!
