Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
Recent News: May 29, 2:43 PM
Rotoworld
Ex-scout Dave Razzano believes new coach Jim Harbaugh will "grow tired" of Micheal Crabtree fairly quickly.
Per Razzano, it was a "huge" mistake to draft Crabtree as high as No. 10 overall because he lacks speed, work ethic, and elite talent. "Harbaugh can't make him faster," explains Razzano, suggesting that an "overhyped" Crabtree lacks the quickness to separate from cornerbacks. Razzano goes even further, stating that he likes Rams mid-round rookies Austin Pettis and Greg Salas "a lot more than Crabtree."
Could this be the reason Dave is an "ex-scout"? Hmmm .. Well .. hopefully he's right !!

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
That's pretty high praise..or a very scathing critique of Crabtree. He hasn't produced like he was expected to, and I've heard really bad things about his work ethic so I'm not entirely surprised. Hopefully McDaniels can do some good things with these new WR's.

I don't see it as him talking highly of Salas and pettis. I see it as him saying that Crabtree sucks.

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
Not as quickly as the Rams, who wanted nothing to do with him after one pre-draft interview. I did a search on Crabtree and was certain about what I would find before I made it:
As pointed out by Josh Alper in Saturday’s one-liners, ***** wide receiver Michael Crabtree has been a no-show for the team’s player-organized offseason activities.

I would take Crabtree off their hands, but they have to throw in Vernon Davis to make it fair.

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
I think I read somewhere that in his (rather limited) career, he's averaged somewhere just above 40 yards per game... or, if you go with an average of 15 yards/catch (random number), about 3 catches a game. Wonderful ROI on that 10th pick in the draft, especially since in the two years he's either been injured or held out. And of course, when he has little chemistry with Alex Smith and none with their new 2nd round pick, and he isn't going to their workouts.
Truth be told, if Pettis and Salas have the work ethic required (and both DeSpags and McDaniels(Pats background) value this) to be successful in the NFL, I fully believe that they can and will be better than Crabtree.I believe!

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
A little OT, but let's hear some Salas and Pettis comparison's. For me:
Pettis = Anquan Boldin
Salas = ? Can't think of anyone off the top of my head. 6'1 210 decent speed, good hands, physical. Austin Collie or Pierre Garcon maybe ? Both are 6'0 200-210

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
Some of the great Ram WR's were not known for great speed Henry Ellard and Issac Bruce. These two greats were known for there hands and route running. If the rookies can do as well as Ellard and Bruce start getting ready for some Super Bowls.
I think Pettis and Salas will do good.

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
I think Pettis and Salas are bigger and more physical than Bruce and Holt. But, I agree that they weren't burners. They had great hands and ran great routes. Hopefully Pettis and Salas learn to run good routes and get open.

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
Roddy ran 4.45 which isn't exactly slow either .. That is faster than either Pettis or Salas. That said, both Salas and Pettis have a knack for actually catching the ball, and there's a lot to be said for that .. Some of our receivers really let us down last year by muffing catches. Hopefully that will change with the addition of Greg and Austin to our receiving corps ...

Re: Austin Pettis and Greg Salas better than Crabtree?
If either of those two are comparable to Anquan Boldin, I'd say it's Salas. I like his choppy feet, he runs aggressively like a running back. Probably has more open-field ability than Pettis.
For some reason, with Pettis, I'm reminded of Oronde Gadsden. Gadsden's career stats might not be too impressive - his NFL stats were thrown off by starting off in the Arena & World league. He had some amazing hands, though. Pettis exhibits that same natural catching ability, almost like the ball sticks to his hands. The thing most intriguing about Pettis is that he had a very quick shuttle time - the BEST among ALL WRs at the combine - incredible for a big guy. The coaches can hone that talent in his route-running. I think that might be what separated the scouts' opinion from Salas, whom a lot of draft experts considered a better player.

I compare Pettis too Marques Colston of the Saints. Not the quickest, but can get his 6ft 3" frame between the opposition CB's and the ball. Superb hand eye co-ordination is a must for a good receiver.
