EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The St. Louis Rams returned to practice Wednesday without their most dynamic offensive weapon.

Two days after Rams coach Jeff Fisher declared rookie receiver Tavon Austin "day to day" with an ankle injury, Wednesday was a no day. No as in no practice as Austin did not participate in the workout.

Austin suffered the ankle injury after a 56-yard run late in Sunday's loss to Arizona. He returned to the game for a punt return but was then pulled for the final four-plus minutes of the game. His status for this week remains up in the air.

Elsewhere on the injury report, the Rams were also without cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins (back) and Brandon McGee (foot) as well as running back Daryl Richardson (thigh).

In related news, the Rams officially placed center Scott Wells on injured reserve Wednesday, ending his season. Wells suffered a broken fibula against San Francisco on Dec. 1. To take his place on the roster, the Rams promoted offensive lineman Brandon Washington from the practice squad.

Linebacker Caleb McSurdy, a seventh-round pick out of Montana in 2012, replaced Washington on the practice squad.
