Avery out with stress fracture
Avery out with stress fracture

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

MEQUON, Wis. _ Second-round draft pick Donnie Avery, the first wide receiver taken in the 2008 draft, did not participate in Tuesday afternoon's practice because of what Rams officials described as a stress fracture of the hip-back area.
Avery watched in shorts as his teammates took part in a full-pad practice at Concordia University Wisconsin.
The severity of the injury, and the amount of time that Avery will be out, was not known immediately, but one team source said it was in an area that Rams medical officials had not seen before.
The injuries continued to mount on other fronts as well Tuesday.
Starting right guard Mark Setterstrom was taken off the field with an unknown injury. So was linebacker Vince Hall, the rookie free agent from Virginia Tech. Tight end Anthony Becht wasn't practicing because of a hamstring injury.
In Setterstrom's absence, rookie John Greco was working with the first unit at right guard. Richie Incognito was working at center instead of Brett Romberg.
Check back later with STLtoday.com for more on these developments

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Oh, boy -- here we go!

I hope it's not as serious as it sounds and that DA will get back to learning while practicing but...
Although too early to tell, it looks like Keenan Burton might get his chance to be part of the WR this year. And I'm totally fine with that; as it is, he was already making a good impression.
Still, I believe injury lightning will NOT strike twice in a row for the Rams. // Thanks for the news Mpire.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
HA... as if Avery didn't have enough to overcome to prove he wasn't a bad draft choice. Now he has to do it while coming back from a broken ass. I will not be impressed if this kid doesn't turn out to be a stud. I liked Burton better then him even before the draft.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Coach told him he'd better bust his ass to catch up after missing the first day of camp. Little did he know that they don't teach figures of speech at the University of Houston...

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
This is exactly the kind of stuff that is going to lead us to another terrible season. We just cant afford these type of injuries.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
I read he may be out 8-12 weeks. Any truth to that? If that's true then that is a devastating loss. Devastating in the sense that it slows him down and stunts his growth towards becoming more NFL ready, not for our plans because rookies don't usually have 1,000 yard or 10 TD seasons.

Tragic no matter how you slice it.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Well, although this is about Avery, I say again: let Burton be/shine! Great opportunity, for sure.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Its a good thing we got 2 wr's in this draft. Burton now has a small cushion behind him......as im sure does Avery. lol. i had to, im sorry, but he broke his ass so yea.
But it is good we got Burton and i hope hes doing as well as they say he is. He might be a very bright spot this year for us. I hope Avery isnt out long and can get in there and get some play time.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Good think Burton has been looking good in camp.
Hopefully it's not serious though.

Re: Avery out with stress fracture
Damn it, I don't like the way it's going so far with the injuries. Adeyanju out for weeks with a broken finger, Avery out now with a fracture too, Setterstrom, Becht and Brown also. The injuries are mounting much faster than normally this early in the season already.
