Avoiding Bruce talk

Why is everyone dancing around the topic of Bruce?? I love this guy to death but we have some serious problems and with him being able to hang on to the rock!!

If you are going to rip Bulger...Bruce better be in the same sentence (Mokler )

Last night's fumble looked like more of a nice defensive play as opposed to sloppy ball security by Bruce. But given the number he lost last year, you have to wonder if he needs to work on his handling.

In the past Ike used to immediately hit the turf after catching a pass across the middle.I dont know if was all the "Rams receivers are soft" comments, but Bruce seemed to try to make more yardage after the catch last year.Maybe he just needs to go back to the catch and slide method.

Okay, here are the facts...

Pre-2004, Bruce had 688 receptions and 11 fumbles in his career. Hardly what you would call a case of fumble-itis.

Last year, he had 89 receptions and 5 fumbles, during a year he was bothered by a bad wrist.

Last night, he fumbled because Dre Bly punched the ball out from the blind side.

So...

Is there a fumbling trend?

I'm not ready to put that label on Bruce just yet.

Couldn't hurt to have him work on his ball handling. I do recall that he put a few down last year after the catch, so it may be something he needs to concentrate on a bit more.

Every turnover is huge. Needs to be emphasized alot this year. INT's are going to happen with this offense, but fumbles can be minimized.

Wait a minute here!.........Just how many receptions has IB had this preseason?..............Not that many id assume,plus Dre' Bly isnt that bad of a cornerback either!

I'm sorry, maybe some people didn't hear Avenger when he said this. Bruce was bothered with that wrist for the entire last half of the season, which by the way was when he had the entirity of his fumbles.

I'd chalk the most recent fumble up to a solid defensive play on the part of Dre Bly rather than a case of fumblitis from Bruce (it sounds weird just saying it).

This could actually be one of those that Martz likes to say "shoot we can fix that".

Maybe Ike needs to wrap the ball up when he's going down. It looks to me like he's trying to shake a tackle when there's no way at his age he's going to. Just go down with the tackle and cover up the ball.

I look at it this way.... Bruce is a 33 year old receiver who has nothing to prove, but he still willingly goes accross the middle and exposes himself to big hits.

There are 25 year old receivers who won't do that.
