    Av's 2014 Rams Awards

    Team MVP: Robert Quinn
Quinn separated himself from the pack this year and became a true elite player. While he may not win the Defensive Player of the Year, he would certainly be deserving. He impacted the game in so many ways. In addition to his sacks and forced fumbles, he was strong against the run and drew many holding penalties. Imagine what his numbers would look like if the Rams played with a lead more often (Note: Quinn is also the team's Defensive MVP)

    Offensive MVP: Zac Stacy
Though Stacy fell just shy of 1,000 yards rushing, his 1,100+ yards from scrimmage and 8 TDs in 12 starts were very impressive. With Sam Bradford out, he gave the offense a focal point. I believe he'll need some help carrying the workload in 2014, but he will be the workhorse in an offense that will continue to emphasize the run (Note: Stacy is also the Top Offensive Rookie).

    Special Teams MVP: Johnny Hekker
Hekker earned a trip to Hawaii with his performance this year. His net punting yards of 44.2 was a huge factor for the Rams all season, and made the defense's job easier. Greg Zuerlein had a great year too, but Hekker takes this award.

    Top Defensive Rookie: Alec Ogletree
Ogletree was "as advertised," finishing with 117 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 interception (TD), 10 passes defended and 6 forced fumbles. That's great production from a guy playing on talent and instinct. When he adds experience to the mix, he could be among the league's best at his position.

Unsung Hero - Offense: Joe Barksdale
Barksdale came off the bench to solidify the RT spot after early season injuries derailed Rodger Saffold's switch the to position. While the Rams OL was not perfect, it did a very good job run blocking for much of the season, and protected the QB fairly well. Barksdale may return to the bench in 2014, but I, for one, will be glad he's still around... just in case.

Unsung Hero - Defense: Trumaine Johnson
The defensive backfield regressed more than any unit this year. Cortland Finnegan played poorly, then went to IR. Janoris Jenkins was inconsistent... looking like Pro Bowler on some plays and a practice squad player on others. The safety position is, to put it kindly, in transition. Trumaine Johnson, through all of that, was the Rams' best DB this year. He finished with 58 tackles, 3 interceptions and 12 passes defended.

Play of the Year: Quinn Sack leads to Long TD vs. Colts
Here's the scene: the Rams have lost three games in a row since losing Sam Bradford for the season. They're on the road against a playoff team. Its starting to look like the Rams may fall apart and end up at the bottom of the league. Then, Robert Quinn forced a fumble which Chris Long returns 45 yards for a TD, sparking a 38-8 destruction of the Colts, and a 4-3 finish to the season.

Late riser Bailey was coming on big time. He was clearly the best all around receiver on the field over the second half of the year.

    Good call.

I was thinking of a "tip of the iceberg" award, but I was not able to choose between Bailey and Austin.

    I like it.

I'd also give a nod to T.J. McDonald who did an admirable job of working his way back to the field after his injury.

I think it's a safe bet to say we see both these guys playing together on the field at the same time for years to come. So yeah just the tip of the iceberg.

I just can't imagine how NICK would feel about this!

I personally absolutely loved seeing the ball go to Bailey and think he is just getting started. He looks like a bigger faster version of Amendola. Am very interested in seeing Sam throw to him next year.

Unfortunately however, there will be no sportsmanship award this year.

Not based on the games at Seattle and Carolina, I guess. I really don't see those outbursts as a long term problem, though. This team is young, and it will learn to better direct its aggression.

Actually, he's resting right now. He got a little excited about the notion of the Bailey/Austin tandem in St. Louis for several years. He got a little ramped up with the thought of his two Mountaineers, then someone mentioned the words "Bruce" and "Holt". Nick ran into a wall, knocked himself out, and we took him into a back room to sleep it off.

He'll be fine when he comes to.

It amazes me though that too much of the time it seems as though these guys have NEVER been coached at all.

On this point, and crossing-over to another thread, perhaps this would be an argument against Jeff Fisher adding Jim Schwartz to his staff. He is certainly not know for his players' on-the-field discipline and poise.
