Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
Had a tough Week 5, as I missed on two picks (Rams/Lions, Cardinals/Saints). Called the Eagles victory over the Niners.
So, on to Week 5.
Current NFC West Standings
Arizona 3-2
Seattle 2-2
St Louis 2-3
San Francisco 0-5
Week 6 Projections
San Diego 27 St. Louis 17
The Rams really need to bounce back after the Motor City Meltdown, but I don't like this matchup, even at home. The Chargers have had some trouble with turnovers and special teams play, but they are 1st in the NFL in yards gained and 2nd in yards allowed. While adjusting to the loss of Mark Clayton, I don't think the Rams offense can keep up with the Chargers' attack.
Chicago 31 Seattle 10
The Seahawks have looked awful on the road, and I don't expect them to fare any better at Soldier Field. The Bears are in the lead in their division, and can't miss out on an opportunity to add to their win total. This won't be a close contest.
San Francisco 20 Oakland 17
The Niners will finally get into the win column in this "Battle of the Bay Area." For a week, the pressure will be off of Alex Smith and Mike Singletary, though I don't think their troubles will be over. Just a brief respite.
Arizona - bye week
Projected NFC West Standings
Arizona 3-2
Seattle 2-3
St. Louis 2-4
San Francisco 1-5
The Rams will drop further behind the Cardinals this week, but with winnable games @Tampa and vs. Carolina in Weeks 7 and 8, they won't be out of the race quite yet.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
wow take the wind out of this forum...
I counter that:
Rams 27 Chargers 23
Da Bears 27 Squawks 20
Raiders 20 Whiners 14
Arizona 3-2
St. Louis 3-3
Seattle 2-3
San Francisco 0-6
TAKE THAT!

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
Well, I have to agree with AV across the board. I think the Niners get their first win over the Faiders, the Seahawks can't win on the road and get buried by Da Bears.
I also believe the Rams fall to the Chargers, but........it will be closer than the point spread. This game will say more about this team than the blowout last week. It will be interesting to see what this team is really made of. I think they show guts and determination but fall to a more talented team in the Chargers.Faithful Rams fan since 1968

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
With the Rams problems covering TEs, I can easily see the Rams losing by more than 2 TDs. Unless one of our WRs step up, we won't move the ball all that well. SD wins 34 -13.
I think Chicago v. Seattle will be close with the Bears edging out.
I think the Raiders beat the Whiners.

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
The Chargers allow an average of 125 rushing yards a game. Best way to beat them is with a heavy does of the Predator and keep the ball out of Rivers hands. Keep the offense on the field with long drives, run the ball, throw some screens for RB and WR. Some short patterns by the WR become an extension of the Run game. Take our shots when we can, but play ball control. If we can keep their offense of the field and our defense fresh we could have a chance.

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
SJAX may well rush 80-100 yards between the 20s, even with 8 men in the box every play. Unfortunately, red zone rushing yards are going to be hard to come by and Bradford will need to make plays with the worst WR corps in football. I don't think the Rams will be able to keep Rivers off the field. Once Rivers spreads the Rams D out with his arm, they will run the ball down our throat.

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
Okay my prediction:
Chargers 24 Rams 24
Squawks 21 Da Bearz 20
Faiders 7 Whiners 0
Standings:
Seattle 3-2
Arizona 3-2
St. Louis 2-3-1
Whiners 0-6
Mike Singletary and Alex Smith get fired and take a bus home, we tie a game, which makes us meh and Charger fans pulling their hairs off.
Hey, it's better than losing.

Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 6)
The weakest area on the Chargers is their special teams. Time for Gilyard to run a kick-off back to the house.
Chargers win
Bears beat the feathers off the Seahawks
Raiders push the whiners to 0-6
GO RAMS!
