    Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 8)

    So close, and yet...

Had the Rams just been able to hold on to their lead, I would have been 3 for 3 in my NFC West picks in Week 7.

Oh, well... on to Week 8!

    Current Standings
    Seattle 4-2
    Arizona 3-3
    St. Louis 3-4
    San Francisco 1-6

    Week 8 Projections

    St. Louis 20 Carolina 16
Despite their record, Carolina will not be a pushover. Their defense is strong, particularly against the pass. The Rams should, however, be successful in pressuring Matt Moore and (hopefully) forcing turnovers. I expect Steven Jackson to gut it out and have another productive day.

    Oakland 23 Seattle 13
The Hawks' road woes will continue against an improving Raiders team. Oakland is coming off a huge win and should be very confident. Expect Matt Hasselbeck to have a tough day.

    Denver 37 San Francisco 24
The Niners can't be thrilled about having to travel to London for this matchup. Troy Smith will step in for Alex Smith at QB, but it will be Frank Gore who will have to carry this offense. Denver was humiliated last week. Look for them to open things up and score a lot of points.

    Arizona 24 Tampa 17
The Jeckyl and Hyde Cardinals will have a strong showing at home this week. While Max Hall isn't challenging Sam Bradford for rookie of the year any time soon, Arizona should be able to move the ball on the ground and control the Buc's offense on their home field.

    Projected Standings
    Seattle 4-3
    Arizona 4-3
    St. Louis 4-4
    San Francisco 1-7

The Rams will finish the first half of the season and enter their bye week in the thick of a tight three team race. The Niners will put on a brave face, but look to be wearing the "spoiler" hat for the rest of the year. Seattle and Arizona... who knows what they'll bring from week to week?
Its anyone's (well, maybe not the Niners') division.

    Re: Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 8)

Agree for most parts. I am not sure about Seattle loss or Arizona Win though. I believe in a Seattle loss more since they are on the road at mile high. But I think Arizona drops the ball against TB.

All and all we should be in good position to be a Gameback going into the bye. And maybe tied for division lead coming out of the bye.

I don't think there is anyway we put up enough points to win this week.

Too much for our defense to handle week after week without offensive help.

    Carolina 27-20

You have the Rams scoring the same number of points I do, but have Carolina scoring 11 more, so it would seem our disagreement is over how the Rams' defense, rather than its offense, will perform.

    You could be right but...

Our defense on average only allows 18.7 points per game.
Their offense on average only scores 12.5 points per game.

So I'm not sure why you think the Panthers could come into our house and score more points than they have all year?

We could lose of course but the odds are it will be from lack of offense not a lack of defense.

Everything is related. I said we match-up well with Chargers. We play them tough and pull one out. I now say we don't match-up as well with the Panthers.

Our defense can't play like this forever. Our offense is stale without momentum. We have to stop a Steve Smith and a good ground game as well as trying to move the ball against a traditional good pass defense.

Sjax isn't in great shape with his finger and we cannot rely on Sammy Short Pass to help.

AV I could see our offense not getting in the end zone. It could be 24-9 or maybe one backend score 24-7 something like that but I don't think he have a chance unless we come out throwing.
