    Av's "Looking West" (Pre-Week 9)

I was 2-2 last week, correctly calling the Rams' win and the Seahawks' loss, while missing on the Cardinals loss and the Niners' win.

    So, on to Week 9.

    Current Standings
    Seattle 4-3
    St. Louis 4-4
    Arizona 3-4
    San Francisco 2-6

    Week 9 Projections

    N.Y. Giants 30 Seattle 10
Seattle has been tough at home, but this is a bad matchup for them. The Giants' DL will have a field day against a banged up Hawks' OL, and Ahmad Bradshaw should be able to run on a defense that just lost a key player in Red Bryant.

    Minnesota 20 Arizona 12
This is a difficult game to call, given the Vikings' state of disarray. Still, on their home field I expect that the team will rally this week and try to make a "we don't need Randy" statement. Also, where is the Cardinals' offense coming from at this point?

    St. Louis - bye

    San Francisco - bye

    Projected Standings

    St. Louis 4-4
    Seattle 4-4
    Arizona 3-5
    San Francisco 2-6

That's right, I'm projecting the Rams to have the lead at the true halfway point of the season. I expect the second half to play out in a similar fashion, with the division winner ending the regular season with no more than 9 victories.

Looking ahead a bit, the Rams' visit to San Francisco in Week 10 looks to be an opportunity game for St. Louis, and a "must win" scenario for the Niners. Stay tuned.

Agree with both games. The Rams will be 1/2 game leaders in the devision on Monday

I agree that the seahawks will lose to the Ny Giants, but I dont think the Vikings have the juice in the tank to take the cards.

Not to worry, Derek Anderson will find a way to help the Cards lose and Vikings win. Same for Max Hall if the flip plop continues.

Well, actually, if the Seahawks lose Sunday, which I think they will. The Rams will not be 1/2 game leaders in the division. They'll be tied with Seattle at 4-4. Right now they trail by 1/2 game.

I see the Seahawks and Rams tied at 8-8 when the season ends, with the Whiners right behind at 7-9. The Cards will fall off and finish last. Unfortunately, the Seahawks will hold the division record at 4-2, while I see the Rams at 3-3, which would make the Hawks the division winner. But that's today. Injuries and such, things could change.

You're right, we would be tied in record if they lose, but it sure would feel nice to have the de-facto division lead based on the 20-3 shallacking we laid on them.

The Rams will lead by a tie break, which is expressed in 1/2 lead game. Its not written in their records but it is.

I'm going to say Hasselbeck not starting against the Giants while still recovering from a concussion is great for his career. Looking at what the Giants have done to QB's this season combined with the Hawks O Line and Hasselbeck's injuries the last few seasons that could have been his last start as a legitimate starting NFL qb.

How did this devolve into a semantics battle?

If Seattle and Arizona lose this week, the Rams will have the division lead by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.

    Was that so difficult?

FYI -- Many people think Whitehurst is the better player anyway. He is well paid for a backup and been paitently waiting for his chance.

What is more important is if Mike Williams plays for them. They are banged up and lack depth at WR. The Giants should win either way, but this is gonna be Whitehurst's Super Bowl, so to speak.
