    Av's "Looking West" - Week 5

With the Thursday game this week, I'm posting a bit early.

The NFC West has emerged as one of the most competitve divisions in 2012. Right now, the division has an overall record of 11-5, with a record of 9-3 against non-divisional foes and an 8-0 record at home.

Defenses are setting the tone in the division, and the Rams are no exception. While they have been vulnerable against the run, the Rams are second in the NFL in passer rating allowed and interceptions.

Will the West continue to shine...?

    Week 5 Projections

    St. Louis 24
    Arizona 17
I like this match-up for a number of reasons. First, being the home team is a big advantage given the short week. Second, the Cardinals' offense is fairly one-dimentional, as they have not run the ball effectively. Third, the Cardinals' defense showed some weakness against Miami, and I think the Rams will be able to exploit those weaknesses.

    Carolina 26
    Seattle 24
The Seahawks will continue to have difficulty winning on the road, particularly with Russell Wilson playing like... well, a rookie 3rd round pick. Cam Newton should be able to avoid the Seahawks' pass rush just enough to get the job done this week.

    San Francisco 31
    Buffalo 13
Buffalo's defense was shredded by the Patriots last week, and I don't see them stopping the Niners in San Francisco. The loss to Minnesota now looks like an anomaly.

    Projected Standings
    San Francisco 4-1 (0-0)
    Arizona 4-1 (1-1)
    St. Louis 3-2 (2-0)
    Seattle 2-3 (0-2)

I agree on all of these picks, lets hope you can go two for two with the Rams score.

    The Cards running backs Sunday:

Cards running back Ryan Williams only carried the ball eight times for 26 yards. Backup William Powell ran twice for two yards. That’s it. That’s all they got. It turned into a pass fest for the Cards.
My prediction is we get our first fumble recovery of the year on Thursday night. Ryan Williams has 44 carries this year with two fumbles, he lost them both.

Am I the only one that thinks Seattle's record should carry an "*" next to it for the rest of the season?

You mean the first fumble recovery that the officials don't steal from us, right? We already have one for a "pick-6" that was called an imcomplete pass.

As should the Lions'. That three second stoppage of the clock gave them at least 40 extra game seconds, and they "scored a TD" with less time than that on the clock.
