Balzer on camp
Some notes from Rams minicamp
*With Claude Terrell not doing much work because of a wrist injury, recently signed Todd Steussie has been running with the first unit at left guard. Terrell is not in very good shape, and has only been in attendance for about two weeks of the five weeks the Rams have been in the off-season program.
At right guard, Richie Incognito looks good, filling in for Adam Timmerman, who had offseason knee surgery. With Andy McCollum also recovering from knee and shoulder surgery, Larry Turner has gotten most of the reps at center.
*There is a definite need for depth on the defensive line. Coordinator Jim Haslett likes his group of linebackers, but Jimmy Kennedy has been up and down at nose tackle. Jeremy Calahan is not practicing because of a knee injury suffered in the season finale against Dallas.
One intriguing note is that Leonard Little and Anthony Hargrove are flip-flopping on the line at times with Little lining up on the right side and Hargrove on the left.
*With Brandon Manumaleuna away from the camp because of his grandmother's funeral, the only tight ends in attendance are Jerome Collins, Aaron Walker and Rod Trafford. Collins looks more comfortable than last season, and Trafford shows some pass-catching skills and can run with the ball.
*Andy Groom was signed to compete with punter Matt Turk. Groom entered the league as an undrafted free agentg with Tampa Bay in 2003. He had a tryout with San Franciso in 2004 and punted two games for the Redskins last season before being released at the end of September
*LB Will Witherspoon did not participate in Saturday's practices because of a previous commitment to a fundraiser. Coach Scott Linehan said when Witherspoon signed back in mid-March, he informed him then that he would have to miss this day.
Witherspoon was expected to fly back to St. Louis Saturday night and be on the field for the final mini-camp practice Sunday morning.
*Guard Claude Terrell, who is not practicing because of a wrist injury, is expected to be full-go for OTA's, which begin in May.
Terrell, along with guard Blaine Saipaia, did extra running after practice.
*In addition to Terrell, players in red jerseys who did limited work in practice are CB Jerametrius Butler, LB Dexter Coakley, LB Brandon Chillar, LB Trev Faulk, G Adam Timmerman, C Andy McCollum, WR Brad Pyatt, NT Jeremy Calahan.

music to my ears.At right guard, Richie Incognito looks good"Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

That's great news compared to earlier news on Richie. Maybe daddy gave him a swift kick in the butt!!!!

It just means that Kennedy is playing inconsistently right now.

Re: Balzer on camp
After 3 first round DT picks, no thanx. I think this shows that even first round picks are a crap shoot. I just hope that Kennedy is ready come training camp.does this mean we are leaning towards a DT in the first round?JUST WIN ONE FOR THE FANS

Yep Carlos, it is. All these pundits KNEW, just KNEW, Andra Bruce would be a terror for years after Atlanta drafted him in the early 90's....boy, wasn't that a good selection.
