Barron's EXCUSE
Barron said he knew he was supposed to report Thursday and it was all set up..
But from a trip from Florida to South Carolina his luggage was lost !!
I don't know anyone who travels regularly that hasn't had their luggage lost. You fill out a form and it's forwarded and delivered to your hotel or residence at the cost of the airline!
Looks like he didn't want Martz to pick him up and chauffer him after all.
Just heard this on ESPN Radio

Barron's absensce irks Martz (more details on his delay)
Barron's absence irks Martz
By Jim Thomas
Of the Post-Dispatch
08/11/2005
Even though he agreed to contract terms Wednesday afternoon, first-round draft pick Alex Barron wasn't on the practice field Thursday. As might be expected, Rams coach Mike Martz was not amused.
When asked about Barron's whereabouts, Martz replied: "I have no idea where he is, or what he's doing. Or if he's coming in September, October, November. Who knows?"
Once again, the Rams worked out Thursday at the Edward Jones Dome, further acclimating themselves to the new FieldTurf surface prior to tonight's preseason opener against Chicago.
When asked if he expected Barron on the practice field Thursday, Martz fumed: "I have no idea what to expect. I think if the kid really wanted to be here, he'd be here. He'd find a way to be here. I know I would. I'm upset with this whole thing to be honest with you."
Barron, an offensive tackle out of Florida State, flew out of his home state of South Carolina on Thursday and was scheduled to arrive in St. Louis late Thursday. He will sign his five-year contract this morning.
Barron had been staying and training in Tallahassee, Fla., until a few days ago before heading back home to Orangeburg, S.C. But all of his luggage - about six bags worth - was lost on the trip from Florida to South Carolina. Apparently, the luggage wasn't recovered until Thursday, delaying his departure to St. Louis.

I posted the LUGGAGE EXCUSE Ten Minutes ago.
Does NOT compute
Fill out a form and the airlines delivers it to your door.
Guess, we can let Martz off the hook. Barron knew he
was supposed to be there first thing Thursday.

I don't know about anyone else, but I usually don't leave the state whenever six big bags of my stuff goes missing, even if the airline - the same one who lost them in the first place, remember - said they'll send them to me. But again, maybe that's just me...

Re: Barron's EXCUSE
well...i'm sure he had some valuable things in his luggages that required him to sit in a motel room and concentrate real hard...

NOTE: I merged Tony's "Barron's EXCUSE" thread with this one to try and contain the topic to a single thread.

Re: Barron's EXCUSE
He could pick up another X-box anywhere with his $$ 10 Million (give or take a few).
Maybe he thought coming a day late (or two) would be no big deal... NOTE to A. Barron: This is not FSU off-season workouts.
AND it wasn't clothes... Anyone who's been near a NFL facility knows that these guys can get everything issued from the team.. Socks, underwear, 30 types of shirts...
I'd wager his Agent came up with this one..

Re: Barron's absensce irks Martz (more details on his delay)
My parents just came back from Alaska and all 4 bags of their stuff were lost. It happens, but money can buy clothes, toothbrushes, or whatever and Barron has plenty of money.
I am sorry but lost luggage is a lame-o excuse. Barron must be in the Martz's dog house by now.:tut[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Wait a minute. At first I though this one was a joke until I read TonySoprano saying he heard it on ESPN radio.
Unbelievable!
Hello?!? ...Uhhh, cell phone!?! Helloooo? Pay phone. Call collect!
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity, nothing else matters.
Enough. I'll just wait to see how Alex Barron responds during the course of the season.

This on a Par with the Dog ate my Homework !
Poor Baggage Handlers: We lose more first round picks that way.
Barron's TOP TEN (maybe) EXCUSES:
"I'm calling in rich today... I just won the lottery."
"The sunlight streaming in my bedroom window blinded me. I couldn't see coming to work today."
"The Baggage Handlers were Falcon's Fans."
"My plane was hi-jacked by Kyle Turley"
"I won't be able to report on time because I'm stalking my previous
coach today"
"I will be reporting late as I prefer to remain an enigma. "
"I thought this was the week you set your clocks a day behind"
"I was stuck in the Blood pressure machine at the supermarket"
"I got stuck behind a tractor in South Carolina"
From his Mother:
Please excuse Alex for missing practice yesterday. We forgot to get the Tuesday paper off the porch, and when we found it Wednesday, we thought it was Tuesday.Last edited by Tony Soprano; -08-12-2005 at 02:28 AM.

Re: Barron's absensce irks Martz (more details on his delay)
He is either stupid or gullible.
As stated, he agent must have come up with this and that would make him gullible.
if it was all him, then pencil him in as stupid on three counts.
1) This puts himself right into Martz doghouse
2) The Fans will really ride him now
3) There is no way his fellow players will tollerate that crap

Well shucks Bubba, if I knew you needed a ride, I would have driven to Orangeburg, SC, myself and given you a ride to St. Louis.........
......Let's see (what should I do), honor my multi Million Dollar contract and get to Camp - OR - wait for $1000 in luggage and clothes.......Hmmmmm...
(He must have been spending the signing bonus $$$$ already)
I am trying not to go negative on this guy... but he is tryng my patience.....Last edited by AugustaRamFan; -08-12-2005 at 06:57 AM.

Re: Barron's absensce irks Martz (more details on his delay)
Okay, we get it, Tony... you don't like Alex Barron. :tut
Let's put this in perspective.
Barron is a kid - what is he... 21? 22? He probably does not have a lot of experience travelling on his own. So, just because you might simply fill out a form and trust that the airline would forward you all of your possessions, doesn't mean Barron had that thought.
And before anyone responds that he's going to be in Martz's "doghouse" for the whole year, need I remind you that last year a high draft choice also was "demoted" for reporting to camp later than expected...? (his name was Steven something or other).
Barron's role with the Rams this year and in the future will be determined on the basis of whether he can consistently keep DEs from hitting Bulger. Period. End of story.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!
