Bartell Already Hard At Work - Recruiting Butler!

Bartell agrees to terms, recruits Butler for St. Louis Rams

    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Not only did cornerback Ron Bartell agree to terms Monday on a four-year deal with the Rams, he’s busy recruiting free-agent safety James Butler of the New York Giants to sign with St. Louis as well.

Turns out Bartell and free safety teammate Oshiomogho Atogwe know Butler pretty well. The trio worked out together for a couple of weeks last offseason at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

“James is a great guy,” Bartell said. “The business side is always important, but he definitely wants to be a Ram, I can tell you that much.”

As for Bartell, despite being pursued heavily by New Orleans, he’s happy to be staying with St. Louis.

“It was a lot of pressure, and it took a little longer than I hoped,” Bartell said. “But I made no bones about it. I wanted to stay in St. Louis.”
His four-year deal includes $13.6 million in guaranteed money. It can max out at $28 million if Bartell reaches certain incentives.

“The Saints made a strong push toward the end,” said Bartell’s agent, Jeff Griffin. “It was pretty close. It never came down to the money because they both were great deals.”

Despite reports indicating otherwise, Butler has not made a visit to Cleveland. His only trip so far has been with the Rams according to one of his agents, Carl Poston.

Stop! I don't know how much more happiness I can take today! Man this is awesome. Hopefully James picks it up and ditches the Postons, and/or forces them tot ake the offer.

Butler is good friends with Afro-Smurf a.k.a Tye Hill as has been disclosed a few days back....now its been disclosed that he has a bit of a friendship already with Bartell & O.J....
add in the fact that Spags is probably the man he respects like a good son would a good father..and he would be playing in a system he already knows..i just cant see him going anywhere else...just gotta tell the Postons to accept the deal now or they can take a hike.

Maybe if Butler does sign with the Rams he can motivate Hill. Hey, I've been tough on Tye Hill but if he can turn it around and blossom I would be very happy for him.

Good news to hear. Also good to see that our players are reaching out to free agents to try to make this team better. Doing what you can shows a real team mentality and a desire to succeed. Glad we resigned Bartell.

This just shows how having a respectable coach can have a ripple effect that's good for the entire franchise, not just the coaching aspect of the game. Players are more likely to stay (Bartell) and FAs will want to come play for him (Butler). Sometimes money is the bottom line, but not always.

Now if only the team would move back to LA...eh, I'm greedy, I'll admit it.

Geez. If I come home from work tomorrow and see that Butler was signed, I'm going to kill over with happiness.

My mom, who doesn't give a damn about football is excited for the Rams and Lions. haha

Yeah, at this point it really does seem like it's just the Postons playing hardball with the Rams again. He has friends on the team, he has his coach on the team and he knows we want him. There's no reason not to go here. His agents just want to maximize their own pay day because they know that we need him also... I mean who else will play SS?

But even the fact that they admit he hasn't gone anywhere else shows me that they will eventually get this thing done.

    Patience Grasshopper.....we still have issues.

    1. Bell needs to play better than last year.
    2. Does this O line gel into a formidable one?
    3. Does Little have one more year?
    4. Who plays SS?
    5. WHEN SJAX gets hurt, who replaces him this year?

    Still alot to do.
