Re: And it begins: Rams will interview Fisher this week

I hope we get Fisher. As was said earlier he lasted in Houston/Tenn for 15 years for a reason. I heard he's visiting Miami first but that job isn't as good as ours. First, he will not have as much FO influence with Jeff Ireland as the GM and the 'fins play in a tough division where the Pats and the Jets reside, so with a 2nd tier QB (Matt Moore) he's got to go to war with those teams 2x each year. We are also in good shape cap space-wise for the next 2 years, I don't know where the Dolphins are but no one has mentioned it being a strong selling point. We will also have to comply with the Rooney Rule by interviewing a diversity candidate. What a sham that will be.

I must add that I was very sorry to see Spags go. Remember, 3 years ago we thought we had it all solved. And as for the Super Bowl, our coach when we went to SB XlV was Ray Malavasi (Ray who???). So it's not only about the coach it also about the players on the field.

Fasten your seat belts this is going to be a wild few weeks. Go Rams!

I'm going to admit, I'm not a huge fan of Jeff Fisher. I never liked him when he was in Tennessee either. He just has this air to him that makes him look like an a$$****.

There's a difference between a tough, no-nonsense, passionate coach, and someone like Jeff Fisher.

If we do get him, hopefully he'll prove me wrong, but I have never been a fan of Fisher.

To address several points on this thread: The four pillars concept is a sound concept that NO COACH should ever have to apologize for. I'll criticize Spags for a lot of issues, but that isn't one of them. Winning with ***holes is not something I want to be a part of as a fan, player or coach. You don't need to bring in talented jerks to win, you just have to bring in talent, and therein lies our problem- we didn't have enough of it. A talented jerk may help you in the short term, but at the first sniff of adversity he'll be the first guy to bail on you. Ask the Jets about Santonio Holmes.

And secondly, not liking Jeff Fisher is fine, but any belief the guy isn't a good football coach is complete nonsense. Personal won-loss percentage is not the only true barometer of a coach. MANY other factors play into a guy's winning percentage. Mike Martz was 30 plus games over .500 for his career, but he was NOT a great head coach.

Right. Miami getting a crack at him first may be mad for us too. Although they had a bad start, they started taking off in the second half. He may look at what team seems to have the most potential.

It looks like Fisher has finished his interview with the Dolphins and has left the facility. No word about a contract offer yet.

It looks like the Chargers will keep Turner again so Fisher won't be waiting around for that job, thankfully.

Re: And it begins: Rams will interview Fisher this week

Fisher coached his team to the division title a grand total of THREE times in 17 seasons. That's considered quality coaching?

The Rams need to hire a GM first. It's backwards to hire the head coach and then find a GM to fill the gap.

Read Bernie Bytes- A look at the Rams Shake Up. It more than explains Fisher's record and why he's a quality coach and a good choice. And as for hiring a GM first, Kroenke feels the order of hiring is not important and as a billionaire businessman with a number of interests in the professional sports world, I'll take him at his word.

That's an excellent point, Jersey. Look at the Bengals. They didn't win with their me-first receiving tandem of Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson. They turned themselves around with a stock of young, quality talent who are team players.

Nice observation, HUb- wasn't thinking of that example when I posted, but very much on point.

And RebelYell- I wasn't implying I AM THE BILLIONAIRE BUSINESSMAN, I meant Stan!! Boy, I wish!

Re: And it begins: Rams will interview Fisher this week

Paul Allen is a billionaire businessman with financial interests multiple professional teams. How does that make him a football genius? Kroenke didn't become a billionaire by showing the world how smart he was at football. He became a billionaire by being good at making real estate deals.

How has Kroenke proven he's a qualified evaluator of NFL talent in head coaches? Wreaks of Ziggy's decision making expertise. Stan and Demoff need to hire a President, Kroenke, Demoff and the President can hire the GM and then the President, Demoff and GM can hire the Coach. When you skip steps, you make idiotic choices.
