    Bennett raises my eyes

I spent most of the evening last night at the casino and the day playing, and spent tons of time looking for information on what happened in the free-agent world all day. My drive home I heard the news and was elated. But this brings up some interesting questions for us to think about.

    1) I am sure Curtis was offered the same contract and it was turned down
    2) Bennett signing here says a lot for his character. He knows he isn't going to be the star, but comes here anyway and is willing to take a back seat for now.
    3) What does this mean for the draft? There is so much talent out there at the receiver position, it would be a shame not to tap some of it. But do we have room on the roster now for a "project".
    4) If we make room on the roster for a "project" what does this mean for Looker?
    5) What does this mean for our offensive sets? We have 3 number wide-outs and a boat load of TE's. Linehan in the past liked using 2 TE sets, and this has been his M.O. for years, Slot receivers have not had a big role in his offense.
    6) Is Bruce's role going to diminish?

I love the signing and am excited about it, but what does it all mean?

    Re: Bennett raises my eyes

for what its worth heres my take.
    1. I am not so sure Curtis was offered a contract. IMO the Rams were going to go another direction regardless.
    2. Yes signing with a team that has 2 potential HOF's says alot about his character and a desire to WIN, a team player not enamored with having to be THE guy.
    3. This means go heavy on the Defense in the draft, no 1st day pick for a WR,with Bennett signed a second day pick for a back-up RB with return abilities would be my preference.
    4. No "projects" this year please!! We have Hagans on the PS, Looker is valuable as a holder and solid as a 4th WR. We need to draft solid football players that can contribute NOW not a year or 2 down the road.
    5. I am not sure. but it means we have plenty of options and hopefully can keep the opponent off-balance with a nice mix of offensive sets.
    6. I hope not and dont think so. at least not significantly IMO.

    Good Post!!

I'm still coming to terms with his signing, simply superb, great to see us getting agressive in the FA for a change,

I slightly disagree, Bennett 7 years in the NFL, signing $30 million 6 year deal, i already have him IMHO as to take over from Bruce whenever he decides to retire, NFL teams done give out 6 year deals @ $30 mill for them to be sat at 3rd WR for any length of time. I feel this kid maybe the WR to follow aptly into Bruce's shoes.

If we did, he wants to be a starter.

    2) Bennett signing here says a lot for his character. He knows he isn't going to be the star, but comes here anyway and is willing to take a back seat for now.

I read he had other options, but wanted to be part of something bigger.

    3) What does this mean for the draft? There is so much talent out there at the receiver position, it would be a shame not to tap some of it. But do we have room on the roster now for a "project".

If we grab another WR late, I'm fine with that, McD is gone also.

    4) If we make room on the roster for a "project" what does this mean for Looker?
He will still be here, is he not the holder on FG.

    5) What does this mean for our offensive sets? We have 3 number wide-outs and a boat load of TE's. Linehan in the past liked using 2 TE sets, and this has been his M.O. for years, Slot receivers have not had a big role in his offense.
Things are going to change. Deal with the Rams and their spped ad size.

    6) Is Bruce's role going to diminish?

Only if he shows signs of slowing, I did not see it last year.

Im sure it takes a TON of "character" for a WR to come to one of the most prolific passing atacks in the game and get passes thrown to him by one of the most accurate QBs. If you saw any of the Titans games last year you know that for whatever reason, Young seemed to look to other WRs an awful lot. In 16 games last year this guy only caught 46 balls. He didnt really seem like "the star" when I watched them play. Very odd considering all of Bennetts experience and past production. He and Young never seemed to "click".

Good to finally have a BIG (6'5") WR to look for when the Rams get in the "red zone". This guy has great hands too. With Holt and Bruce drawing alot of (DB) attention, Bennett could be poised to have a real nice run with the Rams.

I love because he will probably step in when Bruce goes, and is gonna be cheaper than Curtis without losing the production.

I agree. It shows at the least that he buys into what the coaches were saying enough that he's willing to sit behind Bruce and Holt for a while.

I think McDonald will also sign elsewhere. That would leave another roster spot open.

If anything, I think it would affect the TE's opportunities. Who is more likely your go-to guy when you need someone to go up for a jump ball across the middle, Klopfenstein or Bennett?

I think that is possible, though perhaps Linehan places a greater value on a guy like Bennett, who is 6'5 and better suited for the slot role.

    2) Bennett signing here says a lot for his character. He knows he isn't going to be the star, but comes here anyway and is willing to take a back seat for now.
I think that's a good assessment. He clearly has more a long-term view.

    3) What does this mean for the draft? There is so much talent out there at the receiver position, it would be a shame not to tap some of it. But do we have room on the roster now for a "project".
Assuming Curtis and McDonald both go, I still think the Rams will look to take a WR, perhaps in the 3rd round. Its a deep WR draft, so there should be some decent options there. Definitely will be someone who can return kicks as well (i.e. Johnnie Lee Higgins, UTEP).

    4) If we make room on the roster for a "project" what does this mean for Looker?
His role as Wilkins' holder, as well as his willingness to play on kick coverage, could keep him on the roster. Won't shock me if he's gone, though.

    5) What does this mean for our offensive sets? We have 3 number wide-outs and a boat load of TE's. Linehan in the past liked using 2 TE sets, and this has been his M.O. for years, Slot receivers have not had a big role in his offense.
I think we'll see a lot of 3 WR sets, particularly with Jackson's success running from spread formations.

    6) Is Bruce's role going to diminish?
This year, I doubt it will. But Father Time will catch up with Ike eventually.

I love the signing and am excited about it, but what does it all mean?
I think this was about having a true slot WR with some size, who can also step up and play on the outside if Holt or Bruce should miss a game, and a guy who can eventually replace Bruce when he retires.

Drew B. is a nice acquisiton, but we still haven't addressed the issues on Defense and no Hall is not the answer.
