Bentley: Browns, to the Rams?

LeCharles Bentley walked away from his lifelong dream of playing for the Browns on Wednesday because it just didn't feel like a dream anymore.

Bentley, who would have competed at both center and guard, said he thought he could have won a starting job if given the chance.

Bentley, who passed his Browns physical on Monday night, made his decision after participating in minicamp on a limited basis Tuesday morning and attending team meetings.

"The feeling just wasn't the same as when I first signed with the Browns," he said. "I thought it over through the course of the day, spoke with my mom, weighed my options and then got a good night's sleep. When I woke up, I knew what I had to."

Bentley, a two-time Pro Bowl center with New Orleans, signed a six-year, $36 million free-agent contract in March 2006 with the Browns.

Should the Rams take a long look?

Always worth a look, especially when this guy has already been to the pro bowl twice.

It's worth a look. But if he expects much, forget it.

Two weeks gone by, and he still sits on the market.

You're absolutely right. I know for a fact that Bentley is requesting some sort of cash that some teams may not have.

Sure he's been out because of a freak injury, but if he's worth looking at, I could say the Rams can give it a shot. HOWEVER, we have bigger needs as in signing Jackson and the other boys.

Sounds as though he's making unrealistic demands, then. The guy hasn't played a single down in two seasons and has dodgy knees, not ideal when you're under pressure in the trenches. He may have been a Pro Bowler in his heyday but who's to say that he'll ever recapture that sort of form? If he's asking for top dollar, he may find that teams just aren't willing to take the risk.

Besides, we look okay up front now, assuming that everyone stays fit and Greco and Schuening adapt well. Certainly, we've got Cogs, Romberg and Fry at center... plenty of depth there.

Re: Bentley: Browns, to the Rams?

I say pay the man. Not sure how close we are to the cap, but if we could bring in another pro bowl caliber interior o lineman, i would see this as a great offseason. But i do agree with moose, we need to have most of our focus and money spent on keeping Jackson in the horns. But hey, didn't we release one of the greatest Rams of all time, surely we have some cash to throw around
