Bernie Bits - 3-21-08

What's the big deal?

Al Saunders had him in Washington, liked him enough, and so the Rams are taking a look.

In 2006 he had 61 catches and four TDs for a pretty danged good team.

Calm down. ...

Caldwell would be a depth move, if they make it. And an economical one at that. For the life of me, i can't figure some of you out. If anything Saunders has shown that he can squeeze some nice output from marginal types. Strange. Hate to be the messenger of bad news, but the free-agent market doesn't feature any cheap, in-their-prime, Pro Bowl caliber wideouts.

-------------
Stanley will get a look / chance on his own merits. Whether Caldwell is here or not.

Don't light a candle for Hagans at WR. Isn't progressing.

-B
-------------
I don't pay attention to listed weight... Romberg doesn't play at 298.

But also, my point wasn't that his size is an issue or a detriment.. the opposite, actually. He's mobile, and Saunders likes that in his interrior lineman.

Well that sucks about Hagans, I liked him for some reason. At least Stanley will get a shot, but if we go WR in round 2, then he's just one more step down the ladder.

Holt 1
Bennett 2
Hardy 3
Caldwell 4
Stanley 5

a group of wideouts that all have different qualities and with Randy Mac,SJ and Leonard thrown into the mix, with a more solid O-line in place, who knows what Al can get out of them!

Re: Bernie Bits - 3-21-08

I think it is obious we take a WR in the second. Hardy would be awesome, but I think he might gone as well. Unless there is a bunch of WR taken in the first, we will get someone talented in the second, but waiting until the third round would be a mistake.

Re: Bernie Bits - 3-21-08

well in Scott Wright`s latest mock on nfldraftcountdown.com...altho he`s gone a little mayock in his approach,he nevertheless has Hardy going 36th overall to the Jets, with us taking Mario Manningham at 33rd overall, for what its worth...Manningham would be a better fit for us perhaps than Hardy..certainly at the slot receiver position anyway!

either one of them two or on our D a dan connor or kenny phillips..would leave me ecstatic!

Re: Bernie Bits - 3-21-08

I, too, would favor Manningham over Hardy, but would take Hardy in a heartbeat if he was B(est)W(ide)R(eceiver)A(you know this one). Unfortunately, it's not a slam dunk to get a WR at the top or round 2. There's plenty that could go on in the draft that could change that. OT drops, Safety drops, we trade down to get picks. We "trade up" with Dallas who gives us their first round picks for five years(including two this year) for our 1st and 2nd. You never know.

Switch Hardy (or Manningham) for Bennett and I'll be happy.

I say we do what we have to right now and in a year or two grab Crabtree with our first round pick.

Re: Bernie Bits - 3-21-08

Where does Dante Hall sit on the depth chart? It really seems to me that Saunders is trying to replicate what he had in KC and if so, WR won't be a big priority in FA or the draft. The Rams already have 10X what they had in KC by having Holt. WR was pretty low down the list of offensive weapons for Saunders back then. The real question is will McMichael be able to fill the Tony Gonzalez role(in terms of who's catching the passes. The bigger question is o-line and production in the running game).

So THAT'S why Scooter wanted Saunders. To maximize the TE position. Don't worry mokler, we'll bring in enough TE's to attempt to match TG.

You guys must have not heard about the blockbuster trade we're doing.

We're getting Tony Gonzales by trading Holt and our first and second round picks.

Actually, this would be a good one for the getting this out of our system thread. "With the second pick in the 2008 NFL draft, the St. Louis Rams take... John Carlson? TE from Notre Dame... Idiots..."
