Is this a big deal for us come Sunday?
Eagles bench first round pick Danny Watkins
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 7, 2011, 12:49 PM EDT
Two days after admitting his transition to the NFL was “overwhelming,” Eagles rookie Danny Watkins was removed from the starting lineup.
Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com reports from Eagles practice Wednesday that new waiver pickup Kyle DeVan will replace Watkins in the starting lineup. DeVan took all the reps with the starting lineup.
This is the right move by all accounts. Watkins doesn’t look ready.
Still, the Eagles have to be disappointed with the uncertainty of their offensive line. Their right guard is a waiver pickup that wasn’t good enough to stick with the Colts. The right tackle was moved from guard because their first two options were hurt. The center is a rookie. The first round pick is on the bench.
There are plenty of reasons to think the Eagles will be good this year, but there are almost as many questions about them.
Wonder if Vick might be a bit nervous over this "addition?" Thoughts??

And somewhere in Rams Park, Long, Quinn, Robbins, & Hall are giggling like school-girls.

I know we can pressure Vick all day but can we keep him from beating us with his legs? Just not sure... I hope Spags can create a game plan where we get to him early and often.
If the Rams can take an early lead and force them into a passing situations then yeah it's a big deal. The Eagles O line has looked bad and it does not look like its getting any better any time soon. They also are weak at LB, so SJ could do some damage as well.

Having seen them in person that would be hilarious to see. And does Bannan get no love? We match up well with them I can't wait any longer for this game.

Well, there was talk about how the Rams D line could be trouble for the Eagles O line already. This is just better news. It will be up to the secondary to blanket the WR's to really bottle up Vick. The Rams blitzed more this preseason than normal, look for more of the same in Game 1.

Just what I love to read baby! I am so excited to see this game. People will stop with all the dream team talk after sunday.

That O-line changes seemingly everyday. Where does it stand now?
Peters, Mathis, Kelce, DeVan, Herremans?
I think that's their current left to right lineup.
Re: Is this a big deal for us come Sunday?
Vick's a lefty so, yeah, I'd say an untried guard/tackle combo protecting his blindside is a big deal, especially if that guard is now a waiver wire castoff who has hardly practiced with his teammates.
Doesn't mean it will be easy to corral a fresh-legged Vick, though. Kind of like the inverse effect of having Asomugha on one side of your DB field, it puts even more pressure on Hall & the OLB/safety on the other side to contain him, imo.

If our visitor, champmv7, informed us correctly before the Watkins demotion, I believe that is accurate. Justice is apparently riding the pine.
Here's hoping that after the game, we'll be calling them Mo, Curly, Groucho, Shemp, and Harpo.

It's a very big deal...my optomistic outlook just got even better. A scrabbling Vick is to be feared though. We need sacks, not QB pressures.

Lets Blitz Blitz Blitz. And if we get a chance, blitz a little.

I could be wrong, but I think he's on the PUP.

Not sure I totally agree that sacks are more important than consistent disciplined pressure. As long as you don't give him the edge, a scrambling Vick has some ball security issues & he's only six feet tall so guys in his face could help cause turnovers either by fumble or INT which is even better than sacks,no?

Either way works for me as good news. Obviously, I'm not picky since I mixed Stooges & Marx Bros on my version of their line. Larry didn't even make the roster.

DeVan is a favorite of Eagles offensive line coach Howard Mudd after the two spent time together in Indianapolis. So it shouldn't be a huge adjustment for DeVan to play under Mudd again. That said, any time you go from being on waivers to the starting line-up, there's probably some concern there about what you're getting out of the position. The weaknesses on the Eagles' offensive line has to be a concern for them, though it'll be interesting to see how DeVan responds.
